Jaguar Paw Resort Belize - recommend or not?
 

Has anyone had any experience with Jaguar Paw Resort? How are the accomodations? The location? The activities offered?

I've stayed there and have visited a number of other times. It has a beautiful setting and the rooms are pretty nice, all with design "themes" and all have A/C, very unusual in a jungle lodge.

A downside is that Jaguar Paw is where a lot of cruise shipper passengers come for cave tubing.

So it's not a truly classic jungle lodge in the way that, say, Chan Chich, is.

Does the presence of cruise ship tour-goers detract from the atmosphere, a sense that the area is a revolving door? Where else would you recommend? Looking for a balance of adventure and enjoyment of the natural surroundings, but prefer AC and not sleeping on a cot at night.

I think it can at times detract from the lodge experience.

If you must have A/C in the jungle, then you're pretty much limited to Jaguar Paw and Maruba Spa.

But the top tier jungle lodges in Belize -- namely Chan Chich, Chaa Creek and Blancaneaux -- are certainly not places where you "sleep on a cot." They (especially Chaa Creek and Blancaneaux) offer beautiful, even extraordinary, accommodations, good food and drink and in general are among the best places of their type in the world.

If you want to venture further south to our least developed area, El Pescador has cabanas with a/c. It markets itself as a fishing lodge, but is actually in the jungle on the river a few miles from the sea. Has a pool, very nice restaurant and bar, large well done cabanas. Trips to ruins, caves, Maya villages, river trips, howler monkeys in the trees outside your door, snorkeling, diving and fishing. Just another option to consider.

Are there good activity options near Blancaneaux, Chan Chich and Chaa Creek? We are not super adventure sport people but would like to experience some of the unique activites Belize has to offer like the cave tubing, etc.

We will be spending about 3 days in the jungle and then 4 days at Ambergris Caye so ease of getting to a jungle location and accessability of activities is important.
