Itinerary in CDMX June
 

We head to CDMX in June; Here is our tentative itinerary. We are in mid 60's but very active walkers and runners.
Monday - arriving at Benito Juarez airport at 8:30am - shooting for 11am walking tour in LaCondesa which is close to Red Tree Hotel which is our destination. Hoping to drop bags there and head to walking tour to get a feel for area. Spend rest of day exploring Zocala, Templor Mayor and Palacian National art museum. Check out the DIego murals, metro cathedral and the Palacio de Belle Artes. Thinking of walking there; and ubering back to hotel / dinner close to hotel. Hopefully find a cafe on the route for lunch

Tuesday - explore the Museo National de Anthropologie, Chapultec Castle & park, visit the botanical garden. Thinking again, walking there and ubering back to hotel after exploring these places

Wednesday - Foodie Bike Tour, chill day to explore some cafe's and local area

Thursday - Tour to Teotihuacan

Friday- Cuyoacan area: Frida Kahlo musuem, Jardin Centenario and San Angel Bazaar

Saturday - take bus to Tezpotlan; Spend 3 nights here; explore town and do some hiking, lounging by pool and generally relaxing.
Tuesday morning; take bus to CDMX airport for 2pm flight...check out early, and hoping to arrive at airport by noon. If bus seems sketch, will take taxi.

Any thoughts on this itinerary appreciated, havent picked out specific restaurants yet. That is next step, send any spots you loved!

A visit to Diego Rivera's murals at the Palacio Nacional is a must. Reserve timed tickets at [email protected]
30-minute English tours are at 10:30. It was one of the most informative and interesting tours I have ever taken. The murals virtually tell the history of Mexico, and they are beautiful. Fantástico!

Restaurants we loved:

Meritoro - Condesa
Azul Histórico - Centro Histórico
Saks - Polanco - Polanco

Lots of great places to choose from. In nine nights, we only had one disappointing meal.

While in Condesa, try the conchas at Tomasa (Orange/Almond was out of this world)
For a real treat, stop by for a churro ice cream sandwich at Churreria El Moro. Order the 3 Consuelitos (small ice cream sandwiches ... we loved the strawberry) It's been around since 1935

I am going to Mexico City in May. I have not been there yet. ... It looks like there is a town called "Tepoztlán". Is that the town you are going to and you just spelled it wrong?

Is there really enough to do in Tepoztlán to justify 3 nights there?

Usually no matter where you travel to, it is best to spend your last night close to the airport you are leaving from; if you are seeing sites in the city the airport is in or near, usually it is best to put all your nights in that city at the end of your trip. ... Benito Juarez airport is 52.9 miles driving distance from the middle of Tepoztlán. Would it make more sense to go to Tepoztlán the same day your flight arrives, spend your first nights in Tepoztlán, and then the rest of your trip in Mexico City?

If I'm reading your 1st day itinerary semi-correctly, 2 good lunch spots near Bellas Artes would be Sanborn's at the Casa De Azulejos or Cafe Tacuba. Sanborn's is a chain restaurant, the food is generally good, but it's the stunning ambiance you go for. Tacuba is a cdmx classic.
In Tepoztlán, and maybe you're even staying there, a good place for dinner is La Buena Vibra hotel & Spa. Attached pic from their restaurant.

Please know you will need reserved tickets for both the National Palace (see maitatom’s post) and the Frida Kahlo museum. Also, the National Palace is not open on Mondays.

Consider adding the SEP - Secretaria Educacion de Publica - which is surprisingly uncrowded, free, and has floors.

We dined at Café de Tacuba, and it was fun. We caught the tail end of the mariachis. Interior is beautiful, and the food, although not on our "best of list," was still good.

Another great (and quick) sight to see is the beautiful Palacio Postal. Palacio Iturbide is also fantastic.

YES! we are staying in tepoztlan (morelos) for 3 nights. Thanks for the pics of the restaurant! We will def try it out. Did you also stay in the town? We have 3 nights here, hoping to make it a relaxing time after all of the sightseeing in CDMX, with some massages and steam baths, hikes in the mountains. Do you think 3 days is too long in this town?

Tepoztlan stay
 

Sorry, I keep spelling this town Tepoztlan incorrectly! Well we are hoping to just have 3 lazy type days to relax after all of the sightseeing in CDMX. plus its our 40th anniversary on 6/25 so that also was the reason to find a nice relaxing spot for the last few days. My plan on the last day is to leave Tepoztlan by bus, (they apparently have decent schedules back and forth). My flight is not til 2pm, and the distance is 1.5 hours by bus... it does worry me a bit but I think if we leave early and just go straight to airport, we should be ok. My back up plan would be to take a taxi which would be more expensive but in case the bus seems not reliable.

Yes, we did spend a couple of nights there this last November. We primarily went to visit friends that recently moved there from San Miguel, so we didn’t do much exploring on our own and spent the better part of 1 day at their house. I believe at that time the trail to the archeological site was closed to let it recover from a brush fire. I could be mistaken on that. I don't think 3 nights is too long, given that you're leaving early after your last night if I'm reading correctly. So that'd be 2- 2 1/2 days? Probably about right. It does get busy on the weekends. The market there was quite colorful.

The Archaeology Museum is huge. I would consider two visits since you have some free time on Wednesday.

I also am planning a trip to Mexico City. Have you booked your Foodie Bike Tour and Tour to Teotihuacan yet? Do you mind sharing your source?

There will be eight of us at Christmas time so I want to book tickets and such far in advance.
