Isla Mujeres during Easter Week

I am considering visiting Isla Mujeres April 5-12, 2009 but this is also Holy Week which I know is a huge holiday time in Mexico. Will the island and surrounding areas be too crowded to enjoy? Ground transposrtation difficult to come by, etc/ Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I need to make a decision regarding this destination soon.

My biggest concern would not be Holy Week but dealing with Spring Breakers. If you are over 25 you might not enjoy this type of crowd, and that is a major understatement. I would avoid Isla Mujeres and the Yucatan altogether until much later in April or even May if there's any way possible.

I know there are many parts of the Yucatan that do NOT attract typical partying spring breakers. We've been going to Puerto Morelos for years, usually during Spring Break since our kids are school age. There are lots of other vacationing families with children in school too.

Other than the daytrippers from Cancun, I think Isla is too quiet to attract many spring breakers.

We were there during Holy Week this year (which also happened to coincide with the major Spring Break week for midwestern schools) and Isla was uncrowded and as quiet as usual. I had also been concerned about the coincidence of Holy Week + Break, but it turns out it didn't matter at all - I WOULD try to get hotel reservations nailed down, though, just to be sure you get your 1st choice.

BTW - Holy Week [the week preceding Easter Sunday] is pretty much a stay at home religious and local celebration in Mexico. As opposed to Easter Week [the week AFTER Easter Sunday] which IS more of a travel and holiday school break in Mexico.

Thanks for the feedback - I am definitley not interested in the "spring Break" crowd but this is the only week I can go...
