Isla Mujeres?

Please help! My husband and I are thinking of traveling to Isla Murjeres sometime in July or early August on the recommendation of an aqaintance. We are traditonal winter vacation people and usually go skiing versus a warm climate. Can anyone shed some light on this little island. We are really in need of some serious R&R without our kids and hustle and bustle of a typical tourist trap.
Any information would vbe great. Thanks

Hi, went to Isla Murjeres some years back - it was so quaint - took a flat boated ferry from pier near Cancun over to the island - we rented a motor scooter to drive around - we went to the el presidente hotel for a drink and a swim - scootered out to the famous coral reef for some snorkling - the fish were beautiful -- but I found the place too basic - the roads in town were not paved - prices very cheap in town - I don't know if I'd choose that spot for a destination for a week - its nice to visit on a day trip but if you like water sports it might be interesting --we are going to acapulco for 10 days next week but that a whole different scene there - its very close to Cancun (which I do not like and find very touristy)but its a bit isolated as we took a cab or bus to the pier - its only a 15 or 20 min. ferry ride. Its certainly nice to visit though.

We spent a week there in October 98. We were just ahead of the hurricane, so there was some rain, but overall we loved it. It is low key, but we settled into a pleasant very relaxing routine. There were some very nice restaurants, a few decent shops (there are actually a lot of shops there, more than I expected, and one or two were quite good). The beach was very calm and swimming was nice. There's a small park where you can go snorkeling as well. We've been to the Yucatan a few times and thought that if we got bored, we could move on. We didn't get bored so we stayed. I'd go back again.

I'm not sure which hotel Diane is calling 'el presidente' - I know that there is a hotel by that name on Cozumel, but not on Isla Mujeres. I don't think there are any chain type hotels on Isla. Do a search on this forum - there have been several postings re Isla.

Just got back from the Island we spend two weeks in March and two weeks in Novemeber. Will E-mail you our travel. document on the Island.
Unless you are part lizzard I sure would not recommend July or August.
We know a lot of No. Americans that live there year around and they say it is unbelievebly hot and humid that time of year.
