Isla Mujere - housing help?

Hi. I'm thinking of booking a trip to Isla Mujere, with a couple of friends - making it a trio of 3 girls. We're thinking of staying at a local small rental - http://www.morningsinmexico.com/marysol.htm

Has anyone had experience staying at the non-hotel entities? Is safety a concern? Or would we just be priming for sthg like Scream 4?

Thanks! J

We stayed at Mar y Sol a few years ago. There were no concerns about safety. The units are quite basic though, unless they've been upgraded. They weren't uncomfortable, but I think the owners could have made them more comfortable for just a little bit more money. You're by the water, which is nice, but it's not really a good beach for swimming. The area is great for lounging though.

Some people really love the place. I think if I were to go back, I'd probably prefer to stay in town again, which is where we stayed the first time we visited Isla Mujeres. You have to take a bus or taxi into town, so it's just not as convenient. But as I said, some people absolutely love it.

Susan-Thanks soooo much for this info! It's great. I'm a huge lover of ocean swimming so the note on note-good beach swimming is key. Thanks again!

The nicest beach is Playa Norte. That's the beach that's close to (more or less part of) town. It's a lovely beach. The first time we were in Isla Mujeres, we stayed at the Hotel Belmar, which is above Pizza Rolandi. I really liked it - nice little hotel, not expensive (at the time - this was a few years ago, so probably is more now) and even though we were right in town, noise was not a problem. But there are a number of places that would be closer to the beach. When are you planning to go?

We're thinking of going at the end of July. I'd been to the Ritz/Cancun - 2 years ago for July 4th & the weather was amazing. The direct beach access was amazing.

Has anyone visited or stayed at Hotel Playa la Media Luna in the North Beach area on Isla Mujeres?

Thinking of booking a week there this summer.

thanks.

Actually Media Luna is around the point from Playa Norte. It's on its own little area of beach. Not swimmable, but I do love falling asleep to the sounds of those crashing waves. It's less than a five minute walk to Playa Norte for swimming. We really enjoyed our stay there, couldn't believe we could find a place with that kind of view for under $100.00 per night.

FastLane I'm going to Isla in August and will be staying at Media Luna. When I did my research I found that it got really good reviews.
