Is mid-September OK for the Galapagos?

I know it's the drier, winter season, but how cold does the water get? Will a 2-3mm shorty wetsuit be warm enough to snorkel in? What are the daytime temps like? I just made a tentative booking to sail on Sep 19th. Thanks!

Patty,

I did a brief reply to your other post on the wet suits. Sorry didn't see this one. I thought the water was cold, Lisa and I had 3mm and were fine once we got in. I don't know if a shorty would be warm enough. It depends on your tolerance, some people went without and were able to stay in a long time.

The daytime temps are pleasant. We wore shorts and tank tops (maybe a linen long sleeve over the tank top for early morning), and sandals pretty much everyday. High 70's - low 80's. The night time temps though are cooler, sweats and sweatshirts for us.

Sassyrn: I do not have any info on Overseas, I booked with Sangay out of Quito.

Thanks peg. I actually tolerate cold water better than my husband. He may need to rent a full wetsuit. I like that the daytime temps will be cooler for hiking. Guess it's sort of a trade-off in any season.

Hi Patty:

Lisa and I are whimps when it comes to being cold. Tina on the other hand snorkeled without a wet suit and could tolerate it. I would not have went in. Lisa and I were the only ones on the boat with wet suits, so we stayed in the water longer than anyone else. So I would recommend wetsuits just to take full advantage of the snorkeling.
