Is Mexico in July a bad idea?

We are thinking of visiting Cancun or the Mayan Riviera in July. Is that a bad idea? I can deal with heat but not rain everyday.

Our family has visited Cancun for two weeks in July for the past 5 years. We have only come accross rain once during that time. Yes, it is hot, but you get used to it. Everything is airconditioned and there are the pools and the Caribbean to cool off. Nights, in contrast, seemingly are cool with a breeze along the shoreline.

My wife and I were also considering a trip there in July. I have spent a ton of time searching the net for a place to vacation and keep coming back to that area.

How hot does it feel like there... I would imagine the 80%+ humidity makes the 85-88 degree temps feel much warmer.

Truly, by the pools and on the beach, one does not feel the heat of Cancun in July. The sand is so white it does not get hot; actually is rather cool as your feet sink in! Initially you do feel the heat, especially at the airport upon arrival and when you venture off the hotel zone and head inland to the city of Cancun and beyond. Wear and reapply often the 45 sunscreen, invest in a good hat, find a palapa or palm to sit under while reading or napping, and you will be fine. Head into the pool or Caribbean when you get hot. Enjoy refreshments at the pool bar! Head to the airconditioning for an afternoon resbit. As I said in my earlier posting, the nights, in contrast, seem cool with a delightful shoreline breeze. Open air later dinner eating is popular. In the evenings, people enjoy tennis. Rarely seen Cancun July golfers, though!

I agree with the person who said you don't really feel the heat so much around the pool and ocean. That is so.

What I'd be worried about as the summer draws closer to an end is the onset of the annual hurricane season. Chances are good that you won't hit the shores of Cancun at the same time as one of the area's infamous storms, but the boards abound with tales of honeymooners who went to Cancun in August or September, only to have their plans washed out by tropical storms...

Have fun!

I'm going back for my third year in a row this Tues. The other two times we went deeper in July. Is it hot? Yes. But I live in NYC and I would rather sit on a cancun beach in the middle of the summer with the sand and water than on a NYC subway platform or hot asphalt street anyday! Also rain has not been a problem but as you know, weather is unpredictable.
