Is it too late to plan a great trip over Christmas/New Years?

Hi there,

I am trying to put together a trip with one of my best friends and favorite travel buddies. We're aiming at South America love the idea of Argentina/Uruguay. We generally enjoy a mix of culture and adventure and relaxing/beach time (and SCUBA diving if there is an opportuninity. And my friend loves shopping :)

I've been reading the great posts on the board and wonder if you have any suggestions on a 10 day itinerary arriving midday 12/27 and leaving 1/5 late at night...Any suggestions? BA, the falls? Mendoza? Any great beaches? Should we try to get down to Patagonia as well? Too much to do, too little time! :(

Thanks in advance for your help!

At that time of the year, I would suggest going first to the Bariloche and Villa la Angostura area, or to Calafate, before the locals arrive for their holidays.

Then, return to BA, where it could be rather warm, but great for shopping, after the big Xmas and NY season.

You could go to Punta del Este, in Uruguay, but it will be getting crowded and expensive.

Thanks AVRooster - when do the locals typically take their holidays?

Do you think there is time to go out to Iguazu as well?

I did see Punta del Este, but was thinking it may be a bit high end and clubby for our tastes...

Most locals take their holidays from early January until late February, but some people start to take off around Xmas time.

Iguazú will be very warm, but if that is not a problem and you don't mind leaving little or no time for BA, of course you can do it.

Punta del Este is not for everyone. In fact, I would tend to avoid it, in high season.

Culture and adventure=Bariloche area. Plenty of time to book. Suerte!
