Is Cancun completely taken over by SPRING BREAKERS in early April?

I would like to visit Cancun this spring but was told that many of the hotels in Cancun have been completely taken over by college students on Spring Break from March 1st to May 1st. Is this true all all hotels?

Will I get any sleep?

YES, and they behave in such a stupid , irresponsible way...stay away.
Is like these kids have no common sense, they drink and have sex all the time...sad thing is that when something happens, Mexican authorities are blamed for...so non-sense, parents should be blamed for that stupid behavior.

I think if you stay at the high end properties such as the Ritz, you won't have trouble with spring breakers. The same would be true for the high end restaurants. Although, if you try and hang out at Senor Frog's, it could be another story. Jean

the rui palace, the rui don't allow springbreakers, most hotels in the brosure tell you whether spring breakers are allowed or not. the rui palace americas was great stayed there last year .....the best vacation i ever had, felt like a queen, five mins from local market. hotel all-inclusive but rest. locally if want something different. day time is quite calm ,sunshine all the time ,10 min rain once 2 years in a row, . hope this helps

Agree with Jean -- stay at the high end hotels and you should be fine -- but the Riu Palace Las Americas is right in the busy part of the hotel zone...I'd avoid it.\

Try the Marriotts, LeMeridien, Ritz -- you'll be fine...

My experience in in PV not Cancun, but similar to what has already been mentioned. The spring breakers favor budget all-inclusive resort style places, generally speaking. I've never seen them in the Old Town smaller hotels, and I'm guessing not in the really expensive high-end resorts either.

Though annoying if you run into a bunch of 'em, overall I don't think they are particularly adventuresome travelers, therefore easily avoided.

Cancun is a tacky place even without the drunk Spring Breakers. Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Akumal are preferable and within an easy drive or ferry of Cancun.

Maybe they're right about the high-end places, but I would say that it's a fair enough statement to say that yes, Cancun is completely taken over by spring breakers during spring break.

A better question might be when spring break is, however. It gets spread out depending on the schools and basically covers all of March to some extent or another, possibly including a few days in late February and/or early April. Check schedules online. Certainly the vast majority of spring breakers visiting would have come and gone again before early April, but it remains to be seen what percentage might really still be there then.

For us, we will not go to Cancun anymore during any college/high school break. You can get away from the kids by going into old Cancun -- which is great anyway -- and avoid all places like Senor Frogs. As far as a quiet beach, as mentioned above, avoid all-inclusives and anyplace that offers a spring break special.

If you can change your plans I would go south a short distance to Playa del Carmen, Akumal or Tulum. Beautiful beach and water and quaint towns. Renting/driving a car around is easy. Water in Cancun is rough and farther south the water is pretty calm and georgous blue-green! Going again in May (no spring breakers either)!

I understand wanting to avoid them. We were there with our kids in May a few years ago. Just gets old with all of the drunkeness (sp?), loud radios on the beach and just raunchy behavior. No prude but gets old really fast.

We are looking into staying at the Aventura Spa Palace in mid April. Would this be a place that would have a lot of spring-breakers? My husband and I would really just like a quiet and peaceful place to stay. Should we change our dates or will this be ok?

You should be fine at Adventura. Just avoid anyplace in the Cancun area. You will have to tolerate the mobs of them at the Cancun airport but that should be it!

You'll also be fine anywhere in mid-April with regard to spring breakers. It's over by then. Now around late April you start getting the crowd from the ski resorts, however, who can sometimes be a bit, er, high-spirited! :-)

Look into Club International. It is one of the Royal Resorts and on the bay side of Cancun. It has a calm but great beach. It is a time share and is condo style, but it is a great property and teh staff is wonderful. I wouldnt think you would get any spring breakers there. We go in Feb the week before spring break and the only problems we ever have are getting flights home. If you pick the right place you can have a great vacation.

It has been my experience that "high end" does NOT protect one from springbreakers. It is amazing to me how much parents are willing to spend to ship their kids off for school holidays. And frankly, the more money, the worse the behavior - IMHO.

The week after Easter which is the very beginning of April may not be as bad.

Call the hotel you would like to book with and ask them their policy.
