Cancun nightlife

I am planning an anniversary trip for my wife and myself for mid-November. We are looking for warm weather, a nice pool, and other creature comforts on this trip. So far I have scheduled air and lodging. We are flying AA from Nashville thru Miami to Cancun where we have reservations for 5 nights at the JW Marriott in one of their club suites. Our plan is to spend most of the days lounging at the pool, perhaps enjoying spa treatments (at least for her), and to enjoy dinner and maybe some night life.

Having searched the fodor's forums, I have not found much information on either recommendations for restraunts or clubs in Cancun. I would greatly appreciate if someone could talk about choices in this area. We are in our mid 40's so we're not looking for the spring break type partys- just some after dinner fun.

Thanks for any input.

We went in April for my 40th birthday. We enjoyed The Party Hopper Tour that went to 3 clubs; Congo Bar, Sr. Frogs and The City. Congo Bongo is supposed to be fun, but we didn't make it there. We also went to Margaritavilla. They had a live band the night we went. It was much tamer than the clubs.

There are many restuarants/bars, but we enjoyed the AI feature at our hotel, so didn't make it to any. We spent time at the Isla Shopping Mall and had lunch there.

Try a google search for "nightlife" and you'll get many options.

thanks KVR,

I have looked at pictures on trip adviser since posting and the clubs looked pretty crazy for a middle aged couple. Margaritaville may be more our pace. Also, www.tripadviser.com had an article talking of using caution at the clubs due to potentially spiked drinks, and other hazards which I had failed to consider. That, plus the thoughts of unscupulous taxi drivers, police bribes, and common thievery, have made me consider staying at the hotel for our night life. Am I being overly paranoid now?

I think you're being overly paranoid! Cancun is still very safe.
Can't help w/ clubbing ... at 47, I think I'm too old!
But hope you enjoy the JW, we've stayed there on club level before and enjoyed it. A suite (especially grand oceanfront) on the club level would be fantastic!

My husband and I spent a week in Cancun several years ago. We never did find any fun bars to hang out in at night. We ended up eating late, then just sitting on our balcony or having a drink at the hotel bar.

I would avoid those clubs like the plague. Young, drunk, loud.

Yes, your being overly paranoid. Cancun is safe. We picked the Party Hopper Tour because we went with several other people and were assigned a guide for the night. The guide gets all of our drinks, so no worry there. We left The City at around 2am and just walked back to our hotel. No problem. We never had the need for a taxi, we just walked or used the bus system.

Also check with your hotel entertainment staff. They usually will get a group together to go to the clubs.

We were the oldest couple there and my DH at 53 pooped out at The City, but I danced with everyone. Yep, even on the bar. Had a blast. I will difinatley go to Congo Bongo if we ever get back to Cancun.

If your interested here's our pictures:

We also did a dinner cruise at Maroma Beach. It was a sail with drinks and appertizers and then dinner on the beach. Very good and very romantic. We've done many dinner sails in various locations and this was the best.

Hey,
A couple of you mentioned the party hopper tour. Can you tell me how you came in contact with them. Also thanks to everyone for your ideas. I definitely would like to hear more about the Maroma Beach dinner cruise. Now if Gustov or the next one does wreck havoc.

I'm sorry, that last post should say "does not" wreak havoc. And not to get sidetracked, but where does the phrase wreak havoc come from anyway?

You can book the Party Hopper Tour on any Cancun tour website like this one: http://www.cancuncare.com/Cancun_Tours/Party_Hopper/

Or you can wait until you get to your hotel and book it from the tour desk.

We booked the Maroma Dinner Cruise on-line at: http://www.tours-cancun.com/cancun/sunset_cruise.html

Our tour desk did not offer this particular dinner cruise, so we were glad we booked it on-line before going.

Hi! I live i Cancun, the restaurants at the hotel zone ( where you will be staying) are all very nice, If you want to have a romantic and luxury dinner with your wife I recommend, Lorenzillos to enjoy a lobster classic dinner, Harris or Puerto Madero, one of my favorites! the food is delicious its argentinian.. you can watch the cocodriles because you eat next to the Nichupte River, also eating at 6pm u can see the sunset enjoying a perfect dinner.
For nightlife the best nightclubs are Mandala, Palazzo and a new one that just opened called Vaquita. Nightlife in Cancun is crazy and fun! its almost impossible that u guys dont enjoy it! You are gonna have a great anniversary <3
