Insect Bites?
 

We are planning a week stay at the Pubelo Real just outside of Quepos.
I know that I can expect some insects and mosquitos considering that we are visiting a lush country.
My question is how bad are the mosquitos in the beginning of April what do you recommend to me for staying out of the Dr's office like so many trips.
I use the normal bendryl pills and caldryl lotions.
It just ruins my trips and I want to prevent it this trip.
I know I can not go thru the jungle and thru the rain forest.

AVON -___skin so soft bath oil applied liberally will keep mosquitos and sand flies {no-seeums] off for 6 hrs plus providing you do not sweat a lot. I have used this product in fla and cr with excellent results.

Use a good insect repellent - DEET or Picaridin. Search this board for "DEET" for more information.

I suffer really badly from mozzie and sandfly bites. For prevention, I use 50% deet (in addition to long trousers and long-sleeved shirts. For remedy I use Waspeze a spray which contains an anti-histamine and a local anaesthetic (benzocaine I think). The other thing I do if bites start itching is to use the shower head to spary the area with water as hot as I can bear it. It really seems to do the trick (at least it works for me!)

Ex-Officio carries a line of clothes with insect repellent built into them that lasts 20+ washes.

We apply a repellent every day - usually something with DEET is strong enough to keep them away. April is still the dry season for that area, so I wouldn't expect them to be that bad.

Re Mozzie net - I cant speak for teh palces you are staying but I carried a net with me for a year long RTW trip and never used it once (and that was staying in budget places). If you dod decide to take one make sure it is impregneated with Permethrin.

In the places we've stayed where a net might be needed, the hotel already provided one. Also we use something called After Bite Extra that really stops the itching from insect bites.
