You didn't say where you were going. Inland, fly into Merida

Coast, fly into Cancun. Where are you headed??

Sox Feb 5th, 2008 03:17 PM

I did not say because I know nothing about the Yucatan. Iknow enough not to want Cancun. What is the routing into Merida? As you can tell, I have not done my DD. I just thought about going to the Yucatan ten mintues ago. I will pick up Lonely Planet tomorrow.
Again thanks.

You can get lots of information about the state of Yucatan on our site at http://www.yucatantoday.com Both Continental and Delta airlines have direct flights from Houston and Atlanta into Merida International Airport(MID). Be sure and let us know if you have specific questions about areas, tours, etc!

Thank you. I checked out that site earlier. It is a most informative site.

Just because you fly into Cancun doesn't mean you have to stay there.

If you fly into Cancun airport, get a rental car (driving is easy) (we stayed in Puerto Morelos the first night)and drive toward Tulum, see the ruins and stay there to enjoy the beach, and then venture to Coba ruins, Valladolid (very typical), Chichen Itza, Merida , and Uxmal ruins. You can find hotels as you go. We never went to Cancun since we wanted to see ruins and stay more low key. We did take our car over to Cozumel to enjoy the back side of the island. That was wonderful. I assume you are from Chicago as am I, I'll check back in a few hours after shovelling again today.!!

Not very anxious to drive. Roads? Safty?
Right--from Chicago. Why bother shoveling--another 1,000ft to fall.
City? Suburbs?

There are excellent, cheap, safe 1st class buses between Cancun and Merida and just about any other place you want to go to in the Yucatan.

I have enjoyed Isla Mujeres (an island with beautiful beaches near Cancun, but less glitzy and more laid back) and Merida. If you go to Merida, make sure you're there on a Sunday. Big street party at night with live music and dancing.

Can anyone suggest a good tour company to arrange a private tour with car and driver?
