Inca trail
I am scheduled to do the trail in late July. I am in good shape at 74 and do not anticipate any problems although I have not been at altitude for some years. Any other "mature" trkkers who have recently done the trail have any advice??

I did the trail last year. I live below sea level and I flew in directly to Cusco and did the trail. Felt great the whole. However that was not the case for others in my group. If you can spend a few days at altitude. If you can do the Inca trail toward the end of your trip or spend a few days in Cusco....awesome town....

Thanks for your reply- do I take it that you are an older person?

A friend in his middle 70's, in very good fitness, did the Inca Trail last year. It was more difficult than expected, took longer (he had to go slower) and one day was especially difficult, but he did it. It would be good to spend a few days getting accustomed tothe elevation before starting off. I assume you are going in organized group with porters who will carry supplies and make camp.

Thanks Elainee- yes I am going in an organized group with Adventures Abroad.Their tour is a bit off the beaten track although there are still 2 high passes I think it might be slightly less ardous than the so-called classic trail. They also avoid the crowds and say that one may not see another hiker most of the trip,

Having mentioned Adventures Abroad has anyone recently done this trek with
them. Comments welcomed. |
Do you have a link to the specific plan you've picked? No experience - sorry - just curious.

Ben there's a lot of 'mature' folks who do the trek. I know of 2 people who did it, they were in good shape and had no real problems. I think it's awesome, good for you!
