I'm so bummed...any suggestions
I'm so bummed out. My husband and I were planning on finishing our 9 night trip at Peace Lodge to celebrate our anniversary. This will already be the 3rd hotel we stay at. Well they only have availability for the first night and not our last night. I really don't like the idea of now having to stay at 4 different hotels in 9 nights, but we really wanted to stay at Peace Lodge b/c we hear such nice things about it. Any suggestions?

Finca Rosa Blanca, Xandari, Vista Del Valley are all nice places near by. So sorry to hear about Peace Lodge but it will still be a nice trip. You can still visit it easily from the above places if you decide not to stay there even for the one night.

Maybe see if they could waitlist you? As it gets within the cancellation time period with no fee vs a fee, I bet a couple rooms might open up.

Haven't been to Peace Lodge yet, on my places to stay, but I will second Suzie2's recommendations, especially Xandari. We had the absolute best time there. The resort and staff were incredible.

My experience with Peace Lodge is that they are not the most cooperative about putting you on a wait list. You can always call them and bug them every day to see if there is an opening. They have a toll-free number from the United States. :-)
I agree with Suzie's 3 choices. Those are my favorite hotels in the central valley and are closer to the airport than Peace Lodge. |
Thanks I have heard of Xandari and it does look really nice. We wanted to explore Poas and some other sites in the area the day that we would have to check out of Peace Lodge, but will have a rental car and dont' want to leave our luggage alone. Would it make sense to leave our luggage at Peace lodge...go explore...then pick up our luggage and head to one of the previously posted hotels (Xandari for example or even a hotel closer to San Jose)?

Ok never mind that last post of mine. You'll never believe it. I tried to book Peace Lodge for the one night they were available...and that night wasn't available anymore!! Someone had just booked their last 2 rooms. This is crazy.
|
I should add...we went ahead and booked the 2 nights at Xandari instead. Is it good to have your own car when in this region of the country?

Has anyone stayed at Xandari's new Pacific location (Xandari of the Pacific) near Playa Estarillos (sp?) south of Jaco? We checked into it for 2 nights in July, but will have our granddaughter with us, so are thinking perhaps another time. Looks like it has a great spa as well. . .

Great thing about Xandari, they have signs all over the place with arrows and distance to the resort. It is and interesting place to get to, but not difficult. You have to drive through well populated areas and up a rather steep hill. When we stayed there, we drove to Paos, great drive through coffee fields and up and down sides of mountains. It is about a half hour drive. You won't be disappointed.
