Iguazu Itineray...How does this sound?
 

I have about 26hr in Iguazu and I would like some advice on the best way to see it.

Arrive Monday at 10am
Depart Tuesday at 1pm
Staying at Sheraton.

I was thinking I would check into the hotel then hit the Brazilian side (i will have a brazil visa). Then the next morning before the flight do the Argentina side.

Is this recommended? What are your suggestions?

If your flight is at 1 pm, you would have to leave Sheraton around 11 which means that you have only few hours in the morning to do the Argentina side. This is definetely not enough time. You will probably be able to do the Upper Circuit but that is about all. I would spend more time on the Argentina side the first day.

My suggestion would be different from the last responder. I suggest NOT going from the airport to the hotel first. It can easily take an hour each way and flights are often late. I suggest going from the airport directly to the Cataratas hotel with a taxi or car service you have hired for the day. Wear your hiking/boating clothes. The Sheraton could arrange this for you with a driver you would feel comfortable trusting with your luggage. Do the walk from the Cataratas and have the driver meet you at the restaurant/gift shop/elevator complex after you have done the walk which should not take more than 1 hour. Have lunch if you wish and then have him take you to the boat safari. Do the great boat trip (much better and longer than the Argentine side and seemed safer equipment) and then he will take you to the Sheraton. We bought tee shirts at the gift shop and then put them on after the boat ride (not planned but worked well).
On the Argentine side get up early and do the train and walk to the catwalk at the Devil's Throat. The Upper Circuit is the best part and you will have time to do that. Check the train beginning time, you may be too early as we were so we walked. You probably will not get to the Falls again so it is worth the money to have a car/driver get you to all the good stuff. I do not know when you are going but it was hot, hot, hot when we were there December/January.

Elainne: Some questions to you:
1) When you say "go to the Cataracts hotel", do you mean on the Brazil side?
2) Did you hire a taxi at the airport? how much did you pay for the day?
3) We do not have a Brazil Visa but I have read that the taxi will "fix" that problem at the border for a fee. Any comments about that?
3) About the boat safari: do you think it is suited for a 73 year old lady?(my mother)
4) We will arrive at Iguazu at 9:30 am. Are there any other suggestions as to what else can we do that same day?
Thank you for your input! I'm celebrating my mothers recovery from surgery so I want this trip to be a "celebration of life" I am trying to have every minute planned ahead as much as possible.

I'm confused..from your other posts you are coming from Argentina. Can a US citizen fly from Argentina to Brazil without a visa? Get a positive answer for that first before making any plans. I do not know how the driver "fixes" the border crossing. But, since the airport may be on the Brazil side and your hotel in A maybe you can go back in forth in transit. Get total confirmation so you will have no problems. If you are ok flying into Brazil go directly to the Cataracts Hotel in the Brazil side. It is right at the falls and the official Brazil entrance. The falls are quite close to the airport. Do all of the good stuff in Brazil (you might even have time to go to the bird park last). My husband is 72 and he loved the boat trip, but there are quite a few steps down to the boat. The vehicle picks you up at the top of the steps after the boat ride. Do NOT take the boat trip from the Argentina side. Many, many, many steep steps up from the boat!!! and then a long walk back to the train. Our guide had them take my husband, me and the grandkids by golf cart (special arrangement)from the top of the steps to the train. On the A side the catwalk to Devil's Throat is fabulous!! And easy to do but a bit of a walk. A real highlight! No problem doing that the second morning but leave the hotel by 8:30 in order to have time. I do not know how much a taxi will cost as we used a car and driver/guide from our hotel. I am sure the Sheraton has a travel desk/agency. Try to arrange this from the Sheraton (worth a phonecall or email). Best thru the hotel so you can feel safe with your luggage. Whatever it costs, you only have one day. Have dinner at the Sheraton, you will be tired but after dinner take a walk and see the stars. They should be amazing. Pure tourist high priced junk. The official giftshops on both side of the falls are ok, but the Brazil side has very good teeshirts. I also like to have firm arrangements when traveling especially when there is a short timeframe.
