Iguazu Falls - tips requested!
I am planning a week long trip to BA in September and would like to do an excusrion into Iguazu Falls. Does anyone have any tips for me on best airlines to fly, what a good fare would be (in dollars), places to stay near the Falls for one night (need not be fancy), and the best airport to fly out of in BA to Iguazu (AEP? EZE?) and anything else you think might be helpful? Thank you!!! |
Some info in other thread
http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=35144037 Airport: Aeroparque Places to stay: there are two cities near the falls Puerto Iguazú (Arg) and Foz do Iguazu (Br) |
Most domestic flights to Iguazu originate at AEP.EZE serves most international destinations. AEP is very convenient if you are staying in Buenos Aires prior to/after your trip to Iguazu.
LAN is the best airline to take in my opinion. Aerolineas Argentina is in trouble economically and may be taken over by the government. I would not recommend flying on Aerolineas at this time. |
take a look at GOL

I understand GOL flies to the Brazilian side.

Spent 3 days in Iguazu the beginning of July. My main recommendation is that we liked our accommodations, a B&B called the Secret Garden in Puerto Iguazu. It only has 3 rooms - nothing fancy, but homey, very comfortable and reasonably priced ($90/night for 2 people). 3 days in Iguazu may have been too much - in retrospect, 2 days is ideal. WE were happy with LAN airlines too - our flights were problem free!

the sheraton on the argentine side seems to be the best bet for a close-by hotel...
|
We stayed three nights at the Sheraton with a falls view room. We used www.wowargentina.com for the flights, hotel and the "Grand Adventure" excursion. We only wished that we had spent another night. The falls are incredible.
If you book the flights by yourself, make frequent calls to make sure that they are on time---our flight was changed several times. Skip the Sheraton expensive downstairs restaurant and just order sandwiches in the lobby bar. Breakfast is included in the price. Also, just outside the lobby across the driveway are downstairs shops. Look them over as one of them has the most beautiful handpainted tote bags. |
Bookmarking thanks

We spent two nights at the Sheraton and found the convenience and proximity to the park unbeatable. We were in a falls view room but would probably not choose one next time. The reason is that you don't spend that much time in your room anyway so you are paying extra for something that you hardly use. The restaurant downstairs where you have your breakfast everyday has a wonderful view of the falls and this is completely free.

There are two good alternatives, either TAM Mercosur from Ezeiza (EZE) that flies to Foz de Iguassu on the Brazilian side or LAN that flies from Aeroparque (AEP) to Puerto Iguazu on the Argentininan side. Don't fly Aerolineas unless you are prepared to delays, cancellations and poor service
I would recommend the Sheraton on a room with falls view, as you'll have the chance to wander through the national park sites for fares http://www.lan.com http://www.tam.com.br Regards javier |
We used LAN from EZE to IGR and were very impressed. Our next flight was just across the border from IGU in Brazil to Rio operated by TAM and again we had no complaints. In Iguazu/Iguacu we used TourIguazu ( e-mail [email protected]) for our pre-booked Transfers & Tours and highly recommend them especially Dan or Guido, both fluent English speakers and very knowledgeable

The flight from BsAs was actually from AEP to IGR. AEP is the small Airport not far from BsAs mainly used for internal flights in Argentine. EZE is the international Airport in BsAs.
