Iguazú or Bariloche? Uruguay or Chile?
 

Hi everyone! My husband and I are on our early 30's and we are planning to visit Argentina and another country from South America in the last week of November. We have like 13 days for our trip, but we have doubts in choosing destinations. For sure we want to be 5 nights in Buenos Aires, but we are not sure if going to Iguazú or Bariloche. Also we are interested in visiting another country but we can't decide if going to Uruguay (Montevideo and Punta del Este) or going to Chile and doing the lake crossing from Argentina to Chile. Please help us!!!

In late November, I would vote for Bariloche and the lake crossing.

avrooster is right. It is too early in the year for the Uruguayan beaches, but a lovely season for Bariloche, I believe it will be full of beatiful yellow flowers, and the lake crossing is outstanding.

November in Brazil is like May in the USA in many ways.

Iguazu waters will start to diminish in early November and be really low after XMas. By the last wek of November they are lower than at the start of November.

The mosquitos come out in the spring in Argentina and they can be fierce. Late November is the start of heavy mosquito season. And by XMas they are terrible.

Low water and mosquitos are two extremely good reasons to skip Iguazu.

Also there are realy only two hotels worth staying with and neither is very spectaclar.

On the other hand, Bariloche and The Lake country and the crossing through the mountains to Chile are world class - and an expeience not to be forgotten. The scenery is magical and mystical and awe inspiring. You have dozens and even more than that of choices of what to do every day. Accomodations are everywhere and in all classes and the food is plentiful and varied.

You can enjoy eco, adventure, animal life tours, biking and hiking, and passive boat cruising to name a few ideas in Bariloche. It also has cultural events and fun events. It is truly a tourist destination.

Also when you are there you can go in any direction and find a new adventure. At the falls - that is the adventure and the ONLY adventure. You either love it or you tire of it quickly.

We are doing both in late Oct/early Nov after 6 days/nights in Buenos Aires.

Thanks a lot for your help. Finally, we decided to go to Bariloche and do the lake crossing to Chile. Do you know how is the weather there in November.

I haven't made my trip yet, but the people who have helped me with planning say that November is the ideal time to go. Spring weather, low crowds. Enjoy your trip.

I am making the same trip almost in February. What did you figure out for you itinerary?? Are you flying or bussing to Chile from Argentina?? I appreciate your advice. Please let us know how your trip went.

Hi Mari, it seems you did a good choice. I am no expert in weather in Bariloche but it can be cold in November. I know because once we went in early December at it was VERY cold. Beautiful blue sky days but cold.I recall all roads very full of bushes full of flowers.
To do the Chile Argentina Lake Crossing good weather is important because with good weather you can appreciate much more the volcanos and tall mountains etc. I believe you can buy that part of your ticket a day before or so the trip. We crossed
to Chile and stayed in the Port Mont and Port area for a few days. Then we returned by bus from Puerto Vallarta to Villa La Angostura and Bariloche.
The crossing was great , in perspective I do not know if it was worth it to be in Chile( in that limited area) versus staying more days in Argentina. It is good to know that Argentina y much less expensive than Chile.
