Iguassu Falls and Yacutinga lodge
 

Has anybody been to Yacutinga lodge by the Iguazu falls? I want to go the falls but am getting conflicting reports that it is Disney land like. I was hoping to see some wildlife and rainforest. Our flight (not purchased yet ) has us at the falls for 4 days...might be too long<BR><BR>Thanks

The lodge is 52 km from the falls but I only saw it on this web site http://www.fallsworld.com/yacutinga_lodge.htm<BR><BR>there is a hostel in Foz that my friends enjoyed...<BR>The helicopter overhead are not very eco- friendly but the falls is fantastic.

The privatization of the National Park has restricted the area you can visit. The buses that leaves from the base of the park tell you that &quot;Cataratas SA (Cataratas Inc) welcomes you...&quot;. Anyway the falls are great, what happens is that from the Brazilian side is a very small area you can visit, you will do it in a morning.<BR>I strongly suggest that you visit the Argentinean park, the area you can visit is quite larger and you get closer to the water and wild life. Specially on the Island San Martin where you can even find snakes (if it is wildlife you are looking after).<BR>I have stayed in the hostel in the Brazilian side (Excellent, but far from the town) and in the Argentinean side (not so new but a walkable distance to restaurants, bars and so on).<BR>The city of Puerto Iguazu is smaller, less modern but more friendly for walking and finding internet, exchange and everything else. But Foz do Iguacu is much bigger and more modern.<BR>Have a nice trip!

Is there public transportation (bus) available to go from the Argentinian side of Iguazu to the Brazilian side for a day trip? As a U.S. citizen, do I need to pay for a Brazilan visa ($100.00) if I am a day tripper? Did you visit the dam or the bird park? How many days are needed to see the falls and the surrounding area? Did you go Ciudad Este, Paraguay?

Iguazu falls equal to Disney land,? that is a totally inaccurate comparison.....................

<BR><BR>I agree with the above message. Iguacu has nothing &quot;Disney Like&quot; at all! It is a completely protected natural treasure! The only thing there are the falls, the forest, the river and a beautiful colonial style hotel - which fits in with its surroundings. <BR>It is one of the most beautiful areas on earth!

Thanks for the posts. I got the Disney reference from a guide book..they said the helicopters were scaring off wildlife and that the hotel was a huge eyesore...I am glad to hear that is not the case. I wanted to see some of the birds and critters as well as the falls.I still am thinking of going to the lodge for a night http://www.ecofriends.net/Yacutinga_...nd_Gardens.htm <BR>but it is real expensive..the hostel might be more fun.
