Iguacu Falls & Lodging
 

We will be in Rio in November and want to take a side trip to Iguacu Falls(Brazil side)<BR>We want to stay in the town of Iguacu. Does anyone know the airline we can take from Rio and we would like a suggestion on a good hotel at Iguacu. Thanks

Both TAM and Varig fly between Rio and Foz do Iguacu. I don't think there are direct flights as you typically have to stop in Sao Paulo or Curitiba, but it is still should be less than a 4 hour trip. I'll be there in October and I decided to splurge and stay at the Hotel das Cataratas (Brazilian side). I'll post a report after my trip.

We were in Rio this past March (loved it) . . . we booked a 3-day, 2-night, 2-tours trip to the Falls and it was 625 ($260). We flew VASP (fine), 10:30 a-1:00 p, we stopped in San Paolo but did not get off the plane.<BR><BR>Our guide was waiting for us at the airport and took us to our hotel--Hotel Foz do Igua&ccedil;u, a three-star hotel in town on the main street. We had room 103, a small but not tiny room with twin beds, minibar, tv, phone, bath w/shower and bidet.<BR><BR>We liked this hotel and its location, we could walk everywhere in town . . . we were glad we hadn't opted for the hotel at the falls, 'way too far away.<BR><BR>The trip included an all-day tour to the Brazilian side of the falls one day and to the Argentina side the next. This was a great trip at a great price.<BR><BR>Have a great time, we did!<BR>Sandy

Thanks so very much for your information. I was very leary of taking this side trip, but everyone that has been there says "Don't miss it" Who did you book the trip with? Was it after you got to Rio or from home? We are going to be on an escorted tour in Rio, but will be staying after the others in group go home. This tour operator will not book it for us. They are a small company and don't seem to want to be bothered with it. I'll have to do it myself. Thanks again.

We just stopped into several tourist agencies as we were walking along . . . all had the same hotels, same prices. The one we bought from was the Lebanon Agency on Av. Copacabana.<BR><BR>Just wait until you arrive, easy, and all of them took Visa.<BR><BR>Sandy

Is it possible to drive from Rio to the Iguacu Fall for a day trip?

NO!

Why "NO!"-is it that far??

<BR>Jeeze, Ellen, look at a map!<BR>Are you really planning to travel that far without any idea of where you are?<BR><BR>OK. The answer is that it's a 20-minute taxi ride from Rio to Iguacu. Shouldn't cost you more than $US8.

I did look at a map and I see that Iguacu Falls is on the border of Brazil and Argentina-if it were a 3-4 hour drive I would be interested in doing in.<BR><BR>Are you being sarcastic? It looks more then a 20 minute cab ride from Rio.
