Hurricane

Help! I'm supposed to leave Friday morning for Playa del Carmen. Does anyone know anything about this tropical storm? Has anyone had any past experiences with tropical storms there? Is this the end of my long awaited vacation?

that one is a gamble at best. According to the info coming in this morning Claudette is weakening but not sure how strong the storm will be. We were there last year when Isadore hit as a storm. It rained for three days, the winds destroyed the beach and many resorts were operating with a half staff. But we also have been there when the storms did not last but a day. Personally I would go, I think everything will be out of there by Friday and for sure by Sunday. You will have a good time.

this is a follow up from an hour ago. I have been watching the path of Claudette closely as we have friends that live in Playa. The weather channel just gave an update and Claudette although not a hurricane yet, has picked up strength in the last couple of hours. Its about 350 miles from Cozumel and could hit land sometime tomorrow. If you have travel insurance, you might want to consider changing your date. Or at least see if you can change date to next week. Sorry

Looks like minimal problems from this one. The storm has weakened and should cause little damage. I spoke with my friends in Cozumel today and they only have moderate winds and some rain but should pass by Friday evening.
