Huatulco, Mexico

I'm interested in 5 star hotels in Huatulco.
Does anyone know of any? Also, what is
Huatulco like? What should I see and do?

We stayed at the Sheraton, Huatulco, last February for 5 nights on a package deal out of Mexico City. Very nice hotel right on a beautiful beach. I undertand it to be the most reasonable of the more luxury accomodations there.

In Huatulco you have to take a taxi to almost anywhere else. There is a attractive small town with with a nice central plaza and decent restaurants. Nearby is the harbor area where you can take boat excursions to a variety of isolated beaches for swimming, snorkelling and eating at rustic restaurant under palapas on the beach.

I'd highly recommend a vacation in Huatulco for quiet, unspoiled beauty and wonderful beaches. However, check first to make sure that recent hurricane damage has been cleaned up.

Howdy !

Last march we spent a week in Huatulco, and it was great. It is still unspoiled, and more local than not, which has it's plus, and minuses. Because there wasn't anything there intitially, the large hotels became all - inclusive, because the hotels have been all - inclusive, the night life in the town suffers. there is still many "Real" places to dance and dine ex. Sabor de Oaxaca ( great Oaxacan food, and cheap) and La Rhumba...great local music"Viva" and wonderful Oaxacan Mezcal. Although there are a myriad of small hotels, and large hotels with great amenities...I would have to recommend the Zaashila. We traveled to some of the other hotels, and it can't light a candle next to it. The Quinta Del Mar, has great views from the restaurant, but it is still not in comparison to the Zaashila. It is quiet, beautifully landscaped with great architecture, and bougainvillea. The pool, and jacuzzi, is inbetween the ocean, and the hotel, with a an palappa bar there as well. The restaurant was unbelievable. The service great. And if you look around, you can beat the deal that packages...such as apple, has and travel cheaper. We stayed for a week during spring break, and it was well worth it. It compares favorably to Las Hadas Resort in Manzanillo....one of the leading hotels of the world. If you need more info. feel free to e-mail me. There are some great web sites devoted to this area.
