Huatulco
 

Can anyone recommend tours in the Huatulco area or restaurants? Any favorite activities there besides laying on the beach? What is Gala Maeva resort like?

I don't thnk there is much to do in Huatulco other than the beaches and whatever the AI's have to offer. Huatulco is a very rural place. Likewise the restaurants at the AI's are probably going to be the best. Again, there isn't that much there. Las Crucecitas, the service town for Huatulco has a little market and some restaurants that are o.k., but no more than that. Hanging out on the beach on the various bays and eating seafood and drinking at various palapas on the beaches was what we enjoyed. I have been by the Gala- certainly looks nice. You can get a taxi to take you out in the country or down to the turtle sanctuary, I don't think you want to wander around alone in any of the rural areas. The best part of Huatulco, I thought, that it really is a senic place.

If you are staying at the Gala ,then you are at a nice resort.

There are many tours to take from the hotel ... I would recommend the "Real Mexico Tour",which will take you up into the hills and you will get a flavour fo the Real Mexico.

There are nine lovely Bays in Huatulco...the main one is Tangalunda Bay where the resorts are.

Taxis are cheap ..so take a taxi to the nearby town of Santa Cruz....from here ,right by the Marina which is downtown,you can take a Catamaran Ride to see all nine Bays...bargain for the best price...as everyone will want your business.

This is where the Cruise Ships dock...prices go up in all the shops when a cruise ship is due to arrive,.!!

From here you can take another taxi ride ( or even walk )to the next town called La Crucecita.

There is a nice square in the middle of this town and a lovely Church across the street from the square...you cannot miss it.

There is place nearby to have some "ice cream to die for."
When it is 100F + believe me you will want some ice cream.

Okay here is how you get there.

1. You are stand in the square facing the Church.

2. Walk across the street to the Church steps, you are still facing the church.

3. Now turn Right and walk 2 blocks.

4.On the Corner is the lovely White building called Mission Arcos Hotel.

5. Well Right there on the corner fused into the hotel building is the ice cream place.... take your pick of ice cream and sit down on the sidewalk seats and watch the people go by ,as you lick away!!!

Remember the temperature will average about 100F each day..have a great time.

Thanks Dude and Percy for the Huatulco advice. Dude, what do you mean when you refer to "Al's"? Percy, can't wait to get one of those ice cream cones in Crucecita. We'll take your directions with us!

All inclusives. You know, if you have time, I would fly over to Oaxaca City for a couple of days. It would give you a very different experience it is so different from the beach area.

We're planning Huatulco in December. What is the weather like that time of year? Also any info on Gala or Barcelo would be apprecited. Are there any other AI's in Huatulco? e-mail [email protected] Thanks in advance.

I was Huatulco a few years ago, so my info is a bit out dated. However - I really enjoyed dinner at the Quinta Real (and the view is very nice). I also thought dinner at the Camino Real (where i stayed) was good though my room was generic resort. I ate in town and around the cruise ship dock and don't recall anything truely bad - overall pleasent. Wish I had rented a car/motorbike and gone along the coast for the day.

We will be on one of thoes cruise ships coming in May, does the ships come into Santa Cruz? How far is that from La Crucesita? One tour that we might be interested in was mountain bike along the coast, is this hilly or very strenous? What is the turtle sanctuary and how far is this from the port? Thanks for your comments.
