Huatulco?

Has anyone been to Huatulco? If so, your opinion on places to stay, things to do, and any info on Huatulco in general is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Sue,
I have lived in Huatulco for almost four years and operate a B&B here. We have 9 bays and 37 pristine beaches so as you can imagine it is great for all water sports. As an eco-resort, no sewage is put into the sea. Located on the coast and backdropped by the Sierra Madre del Sur this place is spectacular.
Coffee plantation tours and white-water rafting are available as well as horseback riding through the jungle and onto the beaches. If you have any specific questions, please contact me.
Rick

Sue: Huatulco is wonderful! We spent 5 days there in March of this year. Rick's summation is on the mark. The beach and bays are beautiful, very laid back atmosphere. Be sure to visit the nearby towns of Santa Cruz & La Crucecita. For more on Huatulco, check out website www.tomzap.com..I found lots of good info. here. We stayed an an a/i(Gala Resort)and had no complaints in terms of atmosphere, service, food, location, etc..feel free to e-mail me direct if you wish.

Sorry to be the contrarian, but Huatulco is not among my favorite beach resorts in Mexico. Is there a specific reason you would like to go there? My problem with it isn't the water or beaches _ they're pretty nice, but not as pretty as the ones on the Caribbean side, in my opinion. But also, Huatulco had a kind of weird, unfinished air to it _ as if the Mexican government had hoped to make it into another Cancun, built a bunch of infrastructure, and then the resort just never really took off. There are a number of fancy AIs there, but fairly far apart from each other and not close to the little town either. (To be fair, I don't usually like the big hotels and prefer smaller, more budget properties) Three or four years ago, I remember there being long stretches of manicured road with nothing on it, and a number of half-empty shopping centers. Perhaps it has changed since then. But overall, while I didn't hate it, it just didn't have the appeal for me that other Mexican resort areas do.

Hi sandy.

We will be in Huatulco in Jan and will be staying in Crucecita. Would you post any info on the local bus service. Not the long distance bus but the ones that service the communities in the area. Thankyou,

We spent a couple of days there at the end of our trip after Christmas. Incredible weather, hot sunny, I'm sure they can even guarentee that sun. We rented skooters to drive around to the beaches and town and were able to leave them without fear of theft. We stayed in the town to save money and it was really resonable.
