How to see Salta area
I need some help in using this talk forum. I posted a message earlier today, or maybe it was last evening, asking how best to drive around the area of Salta in approximately one week's time. I re-asked the question with a new post a few hours later, as I had had no reply. Now my message seems to have disappeared. I guess I really don't know how to use this posting method. Can anyone help me? Many thanks. You all seem so knowledgeable about Argentina.

what do you need to know? How to visit the Northwestern area. One full week is a good time to explore it. You have time to visit the cities of Jujuy: Jujuy capital city, Tilcara, Purmamarca, Humahuaca, Maimara and Iruya. In that case land in Jujuy airport and from there organize your trip if you decide to do it on your own. That is not very easy but sometimes it is the way people like visiting new places, that is very personal but it is not easy to drive there. Lots of time is lost because the ways are not well signalled. If it is March it is the rainy season in the area so you must drive a good vehicle in some places. Devote at least 2/3 full days to Jujuy and you wont regret it. Route N 9 connects Jujuy to Salta capital city and the distance is of about 100 km. Cities to be visited there. of course only Salta needs a complete day. Cachi,Seclantas, Angastaco on the same route and then Cafayate where you should stay for at least 2 days to make it a base for other tours.A visit to Cabra Corral is a must before getting back to Salta. Staying in the same city of Salta is a good experience, beautiful city, many things to see, lots of history around. San Lorenzo outside the city is a good option, prices are not high and some places are very attractive. Salta province deserves at least 4 full days and after the fourth day board the last plane to Buenos Aires. Nothing is impossible but if i had to give you a piece of advice, i would say that getting a good guide or a good tour agency with MINI vans not big buses is the ideal. devote your energies to admire the landscape is much better, safer and you will definitely profit more from your visit. of course it is more expensive but worth it. If this were the first time in the area, I wouldnt dare do it on my own. regards, milla |
Milla: I cannot thank you enough for your good advice on the Salta area. We are going to have a guide and a good car. and we are going to spend 8 nights in the area. We are very excited about going to this wonderful area, and we are happy with any advice we can get. We only now have to decide how to do it, without doing too many "one night stands" and prefer to stay maybe in Salta, and then do day trips, but would like also to experience some of the lovely estancias and vineyards in the areas south and north of Salta and Jujuy. Muchas gracias.
