How to call a remise without a cell phone?

Believe it or not, I'm one of the few people on the planet who doesn't own a cell phone. So when out and about in BA, can I find a public pay phone from which to call a remise? Are there phone kiosks set up in designated locations? Help! What's a girl to do?

Hi piptech, nice to meet you. We are the other people without a cell phone lol. :)
Just walk into any shop or hotel or restaurant, they are happy to do it for everyone.

Jed, they are Radio Taxis.

Actually Scarlett - Remises and Radio taxis are not exactly the same. Radio taxis are taxis you can call and they are dispatched. They are marked with the taxi company logo etc. Remises are car services you can also call - but they use unmarked cars.

Scarlett is right - shops or restaurants will call a cab for you. There are also plenty of pay phones around - but then you have to have the right coins. As well, there are many locutarios that have phone cabins.

Scarlett,
I am glad to know that you (and "The Yankee") have a return date. Can't wait to follow your preparations and the trip report (you guys are becoming Fodor's celebrities).
How is the condo search going?
Roberto

Well, I'll be. When I looked it up on m-w.com (Mirriam Webster), it said: to give, grant, or release a claim to. You learn something new every day. ((*))

Oh, Roberto, you are too kind...typical (ex?) Porteño with such nice manners :)

We have so much going on here with holidays, visitors and such, that real estate searches have been put aside..but after the New Year, things will really start to happen!
We are very excited about our return to Buenos Aires ((F))

Yes! Ex-Porteno (although deep in my heart, I forget about the "ex" part).
Happy Holidays! (and sorry, piptech, for highjacking your thread).

Hi piptech, I do not have a cell and call remises and radio taxis all the time while in Bs As.
I use the following methods,

ask my hotel to call one. They are very happy to do it.

ask the waiter when i am about to pay my bill, lunch or dinner

look for a LOCUTORIO there are tons of them all over, anyone will tell you where there is a nearby one, and call from there. LOCUTORIOS are places to place phone calls or use internet, just get in and ask for a booth, UNA CABINA POR FAVOR, they have a digital meter and are very cheap, they are good to call US or any place in the world. Local calls are .25
cents Argentine money, you call the remise of radio taxi of your choice and give them the address of the locutorio and their telephone number or anyone for that matter.

Sorry. I was remiss in not knowing about remise. ((*))

With the exception of the remise airport trips, we used the radio taxis all the time.
Only once was the meter really malfunctioning.
