How much time in the Galapagos?
 

We want to make sure that we see main wildlife features of the Galapagos but aren't really sure how long we should spend? Is five days cruising adequate time to get a good grounding in what's there? Or should we spend more time? What do folks recommend as the ideal time to spend -- not too much time, not too little, just right. Thanks. Jtrobison

The 5 or 7 day cruise tour with guides will be plenty.

Some have done 5 days and said they had enough ,other did 7 days and some said they could have done afew days more.!!

I did the 7 days.

But the five days will give you "a good grounding" for what there is there to do and see.

Hi Woodie:

I went 3 years ago.

I spent four full days in Quito with a private tour guide before I flew to the Galapagos.

No one got sick during the cruise, but one day the yacht had to be moving during the dinner hour, as the next island for the following morning was further away.

Some people got a bit of motion sickness.

They always sail from place to place during the very late evning and while you are asleep.

I was on the Isabella II..which was a 40 passenger luxury yacht and it was terrific.

Seven days will give you( more than !) enough islands to see everything that you want to see.

You will have wet and dry landings.

You do not need and special sandles...just a good pair of walking sandals is good enough.

When I went I bought a pair of Tevas sandals for about $100.00.

I tried them out at home before I left and they were pinching my foot...so I returned them.

I then went to Wal*Mart's and bought a pair of "River Rapids" brand for $19.95 and they were just great and I ( still) have them on right now as I am typing this.!!!

This is a once in a lifetime trip...so you might as well see as much as you can while you are there.

Unless your daughters are adults or close to it or unless they are true nature buffs, the 5 day plan should be fine. I personally prefer 11, so you can there is no "just right" for everyone.

Definitely take the 7 or 8 day cruise. The people who took the 5 day cruise, on our ship, missed at least two important stops. This is just right. def
