How much do meals cost in Playa Del Carmen

Can anyone tell me the cost of a lunch, nice dinner in Playa Del Carmen restaurants and areas around it. I don't want an All inclusive hotel unless it's a really cheap deal. Can't find a good airfare from Dallas Texas in June yet. Any ideas. Thanks for the costs. Alana

By US standards restaurants are fairly reasonable. I seem to remember dinner at Limones (nice place) running between $11-$20 an entree. Our lunches ran about $26 for two with beers. Other towns like Akumal were roughly the same.

For lunches you can eat really cheaply if you get off 5th Avenue and into the places where the locals eat. Absolutely wonderful tacos, for around $1.00 each. Learn some simple Spanish or take a phrase book though, very little English is spoken in some of these places.

alana -

Airfare from Dallas this summer is the highest I've ever seen. We just bought for our Aug trip and paid $440/person on Suncountry (they usually have the best deals).

My hands-down favorite place for dinner is Babe's off 5th Ave on 10th St. You can get a half portion of full portion for dinner. I remember a half portion of a great, yet simple, fish and potatoes being around $8us.

Get a Playa del Carmen map from cancunmap.com. You find it to be invaluable!!

You might want to try this ongoing thread on PlayaInfo for more information:

Especially after you get into it a couple of pages you get more detailed comments from various repeat visitors with budget specifics for eating out. Interestingly, at least 3 of them come up with AI v. regular hotel comparisons that show AIs more expensive to them, in the long run.

There is a wonderful place to eat in between 5th and 10th and 6 norte called chicago, wonderful food and staff. We ate there and had an app, some drinks and each ate a meal, it was around 50 us.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I've looked into SunCountry as well. Still looking for a better airfare. Seems like good deals from other cities, but Dallas. Alana
