Around $300.00 with taxes direct from Charlotte,N.C. to San Jose .US Air sale. Full going down on the 2nd of Sept.,but not even half full on the return on the 10th. Only around 4 hours direct which was a great deal and flight.

$198 sale out of Dallas (Travelzoo) purchased a couple of weeks ago. Had to be booked by Sept. 30. Total=$267
Also bought a ticket for my daughter out of LAX (same sale) for $300 plus tax. Both American Airlines.

The two questions will have equally unscientific range of answers.
Layover, departure city, destination city, airline name, advance booking, class of seating, etc. all affect pricing.
Where are you flying from? Ask people to respond from your departure city.
Or, try : "I'm flying from Dulles to San Jose, CR with a 50-minute stopover in San Salvador on TACA and was quoted $xxx.xx. How does this compare with your experience for a similar flight?"
