How do I get recent updates on Arenal??

Hello,
We are going to CR and will be in Arenal mid Aug. How can I stay updated on what is happening with Arenal? The Boston Globe had a small article in today's travel section stating that it erupted July 6 & is threatening to do so again. I am a little nervous. To the travelers who just returned from CR, did you go to Arenal? Do you think it is dangerous? Did they evacuate people? Would appreciate anyone's input, especially if you've just been there.
Thanks.

We were in CR during the July eruption, but didn't go to Arenal this trip. I looked at the photos in the newspaper, but I can't remember if there were evacs or not. This happens fairly often, and no one seems to be concerned much about it. Part of the excitement, I suppose! But, understandably, you don't want TOO much excitement! Perhaps someone who was in the vicinity at the time will read your post and respond.

Kwoo, find the Tico Times online and check out the July 8 edition. There is an article regarding the eruption. There were two rock and lava eruptions causing a couple of lava avalanches. The area went on green alert, and evacuations were considered, but none were ordered. Article states this happens a couple of times a year, and that the authorities are always monitoring threat to tourists. For whatever that is worth!

Thanks, everyone. I will try the Tico Times and www.arenal.net
Hopefully, I am worrying about nothing. If it does become dangerous, we could cancel the Arenal part of our trip at the last minute and go somewhere else within CR, but of course i would prefer not to do that.
