How busy does the Yucatan get over Easter?
 

How busy do things get in the Yucatan over the Easter holidays? We are looking at a trip that falls five days before and two after Easter. I wondered if it would be super busy there then. We will be staying in Tulum.

It is probably the busiest holiday of the year. My friends in Cozumel tell me that the hotels are at 100% for the first time in years. One contributing factor has been the problems due to the hurricane damage in the Caymans and the people who normally go there have booked elsewhere.

We have the week before Easter and the week after Easter available to go. Would the week just after Easter be a lot better then the week before?

How busy is busy? Would it be awful? Should we not go?

We save all year to go on one vacation and I would hate for it be in crowd.

We just got back from Mexico - we stayed in the Puerto Morelos area (between Cancun and Playa del Carmen) and while it seemed quite busy in Playa, when we went a bit more southward towards Tulum I did not feel at all like we in any real crowds. A note however, we arrived at the Cancun airport at 1pm on 3/12. OMG, the immigration line snaked through the entire airport. I am serious and we timed our wait in line - it was just a little over two hours to get thru immigration. On our way out the next Saturday, the 19th, the lines for American and US Air were HUGE. We were on NWA and it was not too bad at all. My advice, based on my limited experience, would be to avoid arrival and departure during these peak travel times.

AS busy as Christmas and New Year's, basically, at least in PDC. Combination of high season and high demand from the foreign tourist market and national holidays and extended weekends from domestic (meaning Mexican) market. Can't find a busier time. If you're trying to avoid busy times, this is definitely the wrong time to come.

It sounds awful. We were planning to stay in Tulum on the beach. Our flights were to be the Monday before Easter and the Tuesaday after. Is really crowded on the beach in Tulum?

After all the replies I am thinking that we should change our dates but theonly other time we can come is in February and the cabana that we really want is booked.

Tulum cabanas, because they have a few rooms and they are very small, don't get overcrowded like other areas. We go in August when they are close to 100%...we don't feel overcrowded. Where are you planning on staying?

Thank you for your reply, Pepper131. I was hoping that it was so. We are still waiting (and waiting) to hear back on availabilty from Canbanas la Conchita.

How does the areas busy-ness affect your trip? Are Tulum beach restaurants very crowded with long waits? I would assume that it would be that way in Playa?

La Conchita crowding is a non-issue. We are staying there in August. Even if they are maxed, I don't think you'll have the problem of not getting a beach chair and other problems that occur at larger AIs. They usually operate at full capacity.

Sometimes we have to wait for a table at Zamas. But usually you can sit right away if you sit inside rather than outside. Posada Margherita (another favorite) sometimes has a wait during high season. Ana y Jose - never a wait (for us, anyway). In town, other good and cheaper places to eat - never had a problem waiting.

We heard back from differentworld.com quickly regarding our reservation. They were very nice. I called them and emailed them.

I wouldn't hesitate going to La Conchita during such a busy time. Most people don't trek down that far.

Thank you so much for your help!! We really want to return to la Conchitas. I was so worried and exploring all our other options. I was surpised to find that they were already booked for our week in February. I hope that we get our week in April.
