How Best to Post a Long Trip Report
 

Just wondering what folks think work best. This is the first time I've posted a long trip report and some people are saying break it up into parts which is what I started doing with Part 1 & 2 already posted. Others think keeping it all together on one thread works better.

Will probably have the final piece ready soon and wasn't sure if I should tack it on to one of these threads or continue with the Part 1, 2 & now 3
Does it even matter? Advice appreciated?

I favor keeping it all together in one thread, but I understand that others might prefer otherwise.

The important thing, yestravel, is that you tell us ALL about it and answer questions, as you are already doing, so that's great!

Keep it all on one thread. I'd post a short introduction as your Original Post... then "answer" yourself by adding the other few sections.

If you were so inclined, you could even now copy and paste the second to the first as a reply, to keep it together. ((*))

I much prefer to have the parts posted separately. The parts that are added onto the initial thread are often separated but comments, Q&A, echos, personal chit-chat, and other worthy things that make it very difficult to find the add-on parts. Even if your individual postings are separated by other postings, people can easily find ALL of your posts, IN ORDER, by clicking on your (author) name.

kinkazote~ That isn't necessarily true after time has passed. For instance a trip report broken up into separate pieces (Part #1, Part #2, etc.) that is several years old & when the poster continues to contribute on a regular basis gets lost and separated.

Kinkazote is wrong and apologizes. An active poster and lots of subequent comments and responses will serve to move the message to the top each time. Perhaps putting all the parts in one posting separated by space or
lots of ================== would allow the reader to jump ahead over the comments and read the whole thing in order without the responses (which sometimes are not as interesting as the report).

I prefer to read it all in one go. And I like to read the responses, questions and banter as well.

I like a single Super Title for the Trip Report with separate (small titles) sections for each separate side trip. That way I can re-check Iguazzu (for example) easily later on.

Thanks all -- I'll pull it altogether as 1 thread. Jed, thanks for the idea to combine it now. I'll copy part Part 2 into the first part and then add the 3rd when it's done. Suze, i'm used to talking to myself, that won't be a problem...

I prefer separate parts so that it doesn't get too long and it makes it easier to print in separate parts...like when one of our regulars, in the Asia forum, asked us what we preferred and we preferred separate parts.

I printed her long, detailed report, on Bhutan, but not the one on India. I plan to go to Bhutan. I didn't need to print the part on Bangkok, as she and I met up there and I took her and her husband around for the day that they were there. So, I was able to easily print what I needed. one continuous thread, broken up in parts and short paragraphs---not run on info which is hard to follow...
