hotels along mayan riveria

I am looking for a hotel along the Mayan Riviera in Mexico that fits the following description: Beachfront preferred, around $250 per night, and not large (80 rooms or less). We are planning a trip for November. We like snorkeling, golf, relaxing on a peaceful beach, good food, exploring, hiking and kayaking. Any recommendations?

Oh... I should also mention that we like quiet, romantic places without lots of kids.
Thanks!

the rui palace, the hideaway, are both really nice ,long sandy white beaches, even the rui yucatan is alittle less nicer but still worthy, and cozamel is directly across from them, ferry for snorkelingat cozamel. i heard that was the best, cheaper and better exp.

Try either Shangri La Caribe or Las Palapas, both in Playa del Carmen. You can check them out on www.locogringo.com and also I believe on www.playadelcarmeninfo.com

Shangri-La is your place - for sure!

I need a little clarification. I was under the impession that Riu Palace was a family resort (i.e. the potential for "lots of kids"). Can anyone elaborate; would be very interested if it was for adults only !
Thanks

I think that since the Palace is more upscale, there tend to be less children at this hotel than the other Rius in the area, however they are allowed.
And of course, its much bigger than 80 rooms.
Have you looked at Ceiba del Mar, or AnaYJoses in Tulum? Those both look very nice.
But here's the place that really might fit your bill: Casa del Agua. Check it out under Fodors Hotel Listing for the Mexican Carribean. It looks great to me...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I especially like the places down by Tulum.

My wife and I are headed back to the Copacabana Riviera Maya this summer for the second time, and I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're looking for an all-inclusive, it's one of the smallest you're going to be able to find. It's just south of Playa del Carmen and the beach is fabulous. It fits into your price range with meals and drinks included, and because of its size I can't image that it's ever overrun with kids.

You can get the best room at AyJ for $225 max.

I suggest Omni Puerto Aventuras. There's a Jacuzzi on each balcony. Very small, quiet, intimate, nice, laid-back. Literally a few steps from the PA marina with restaurants, a few shops, dolphins... great beach (we had it practically all to ourselves in December), golf in the PA resort complex... great choice for what you're looking for, and probably less than your budget. Puerto Aventuras is about 15 minutes south of Playa for good access to the jungle environs, Tulum and Coba, Playa.
