Do Americans have to pay any hotel taxes in Santiago, Chile? If so, how much?

All visitors, regardless of nationality, are exempt from the 19% tax (IVA) on their hotel bill. Not all hotels have the papers to do this. Some smaller places or hostels may not. Hotel websites will give the prices and then say if it is with or without IVA. You should always mention that you want the price without the IVA when booking and when checking in as the bill takes a different form. Some ask to see your passport and landing card. You can pay with a foreign issued credit card or dollars cash.

Also in Uruguay visitors do not pay hotel tax. In Argentina on the contrary they do but usually when a price is quoted is included, nevertheless you should check because it is over 20%....no small thing....

Different ways I guess in US it is nalmost always added to the quoted rate and can be a lot too depending where in Euorpe as far as I know the main taxes are included however sometimes there is a tiny city tax added or in Spain always I think 6%, so I guess the golden rule is ASK

No only did we not pay the room tax but when we signed for food and drinks to be added to our hotel bill where we were staying we were charged a lower amount than what we signed for since the restaurant prices included the IVA.

Oh one question, is ther like tax free for mexicans, etc.. ?
