Hotel Sauce
Hi --
This is my first time posting. I've gotten a lot of information from reading all the posts from all of you Fodorites and I really appreciate it! My husband and I are planning a trip to Cuzco and Machu Picchu in October. I have contacted Hotel Sauce and they have confirmed a reservation for two nights but I then asked if I had to give them credit card information and that was several days ago and I have not heard back from them. Is this normal? Should I not have to give a deposit or anything? We are also staying at Torre Dorado in Cuzco and I did put a deposit down for that. I'm worried that when I get there I will not have a room. Thanks! Mary |
Hi Mary -
My husband and I are also going in October and also have reservations at Hotel Sauce and Torre Dorado - maybe we'll see you there! I did make an advance payment to Hotel Sauce using visa. I would say if you want to be assured of your reservation since they have so few rooms, you could try emailing again about the deposit. They told me to wait and make payment 5 days before our visit using the visa link on their website but I went ahead and did it a few weeks ago. As soon as I made the visa payment I received an email from the hotel confirming the receipt and giving me a confirmation number. |
Thanks Leslie, I also went ahead and made a one nights' deposit based on your recommendation. I'm just a little nervious because I've had a little trouble finding a room. My husband tried to call them today and his Spanish is a little rusty. He lived in Lima for 2-1/2 years many many years ago and this will be his first time back to Peru so we are both looking forward to it. We are going October 8 - 15th; when will you be there?
Thanks for the help! Mary |
I know what you mean about being nervous. One of the places I was interested in was already booked for Oct. when I checked a month ago so I went ahead and put deposits on all the places we'll be staying.
We're going Oct 10 - 18 so we may well run into each other - we'll have to see if we have a recognizably "fodory" look about us ;) Are you staying a night in AG or just doing a day trip to Machu Picchu? We're staying at the Sumaq in AG for one night. Thought we might want a second day at the site - possibly to climb HP but after reading more about that I'm sort chickening out. I'm really afraid of heights. On the topic of MP itself - did you reserve your train tickets yet? I paid for that also online and when I did that a few weeks ago there already were not a whole lot of options as far as times. I've read that perurail lets travel companies book a lot of tickets in advance and then when it gets closer to the actual date if they haven't sold the trips, the tickets go back to perurail so more seats could open up. I didn't want to risk not getting on a train - how rotten would that be? -- so I went ahead and bought tix for times that weren't perfect but at least we've got seats. That will be great that your husband can speak Spanish, rusty or not. I think we've only mastered por favor, gracias, and cerveza, very key words! Good luck with planning the rest of your trip. Hope we all have a great time. Leslie |

We have everything set now except the train tix which I will do today. I want to hike up HP but if that doesn't happen I won't be totally disappointed, it will be a reason to go back! We thought about staying at AC but then decided not to since we don't really have that much time. We're used to going to Europe for 3 weeks at a time. This is taking us a lot longer to get to and for only a week but I don't have any vacation left (we went to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia earlier this year) -- after doing all this research, I just know I'll want to return. We have our reservations at Sauce for October 12th & 13th, will you be there then? Take care! Mary |
Yes - we'll be at Hotel Sauce Oct 11-13 -- too funny!
It is a long way to go for only a week - I have the same dilemma with no vacation left this year. But you're right, we can always go back again. Sounds like you've already done some great traveling this year. Are you using any guides that you've made arrangements with already or do you plan to rent a car and go around yourselves? I've spoken to Percy (have you seen posts about him here - he sounds really good) to transfer us from the airport to Hotel Sauce then take us around the Sacred Valley the 3 days we're there. Then he's arranging a guide for us when we're in MP and also one in Cusco at the end of our trip. I hope that all pans out but if something goes wrong and we never hook up with him it sounds like all of the hotels have connections with guides and/or drivers if we need to hire someone there at the last minute. I didn't need to give him a deposit. We're not renting a car - definitely not that brave and/or wanting to deal with the additional hassle. If you want to chat more about this trip feel free to email me at [email protected]. Have a great trip! Leslie |
Thanks Leslie, I did e-mail you yesterday!
