Hotel Recommendations for Mexico City
We'll be spending four nights of our honeymoon in Mexico City in late April as an urban excursion between two resort stays. Looking for a moderate-priced (under/around $125 per night) hotel within walking distance of attractions/restaurants/night life. More interested in a classic local experience over international modern feel, but realize our budget limits our options. Would love hotel and area recommendations as well as any feedback on going through priceline, etc. I've stayed at the Hotel Cortes in the past, which I loved, but would like something of similar character w/o the traffic noise and lumpy beds.

I like the Hotel Catedral. Its near the Zocalo in the historic district. Very good prices and very comfortable accomodations!

i spent a week in a suite at the holiday inn on the zocalo. it was only about $60 per night (with tax) with a view of the zocalo. it was an excellent place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. the rooftop bar and restaraunt are cool too. ibboked the room directly through holidsy inn.

There is also a very nice Sheraton near the Zocalo.
For restaurants, nightlife and shopping, I prefer the Polanco area. It is also close to the museum zone and Chapultepec Park. There are the usual international hotels - Marriott, Intercontinental and Nikko and a new W. For more Mexican flavor there is the Camino Real and a "design" hotel called Habita. |
We liked La Casona very much. We paid more than $125 -- maybe $150 -- but I see there are deals on hotel discounters -- check hotels.com etc.
It's like a Mexican boutique hotel. Lovely. Neighborhood is not far from Polanco. We spent 3 nights there several years ago - walked alot and took subway (bus as well once as I recall). We really enjoyed Mexico City! |
