Hotel Recommendation in MA
 

Would like recommendation for reasonably priced, interesting, clean hotel in MA or Quepos. We will be staying there Jan 6, 7, 8.

Last Aug we stayed at La Colina, which we enjoyed very much. We had an ocean-view suite that cost $90 for 4 ($70 for 2). I think we were in Room #10 (gorgeous views of the Pacific...supposedly the best views of all the rooms.) The grounds are very pretty, & the staff were polite and friendly. The rate includes breakfast. It's not a buffet...you choose from 5 or 6 items on the menu, which is a nice change from buffets. We really enjoyed La Colina & think it is a very nice place for the money. You don't need to spend a lot of money for a nice hotel. It's on the road from Quepos to MA.

Been a couple of years since we were in MA. However we stayed at the Hotel California and loved it! Small hotel, excellent staff, great food. The Deluxe rooms are upstairs and have the best views.

You may want to post what you consider a reasonable price, to get better answers.

The Hotel California is $125 a night, includes a delicious breakfast.

Another place to look at is El Mono Azul. We did not stay here, but met the owners and had lunch there once. It looked pleasant and the food was good. Looks like it runs about $60 per night.

Thanks for the suggestions. My idea of reasonable is between $80-125 per night for a double. We are more into local flavor and interesting as long as it's clean and comfy. Thanks!

I stayed at Costa Verde Hotel in June & enjoyed it very much. Except for the 'Adult' bldg, all the other bldgs have A/C, tv, kitchenette & a good majority of them have huge balconies (the Studio Plus) looking out to the ocean. They run around $90 - $140 in January.

how will the rooms w/o AC be in Jan? it will be hot and humid there-- 80-90's i am told. not sure i could handle that w/o AC unless there was a great breeze!!

As for a/c in Jan., a lot will depend on as you say, whether the room has good breeze.
We stayed at a room as Costa Verde that had large screen doors. That, with a ceiling fan over each bed and over the dinning are and kitchen kept us cool enough at night. Didn't need a/c, but it was a little warm during the day. We were not in our room much during the day, so we were fine.

Enjoyed the Costa Verde in Sept. Stayed in Building B on top floor. Beautiful view with kitchen, airconditioning. Nice balcony. Restaurant which is good is right above the building. Would recommend as a good place to stay.

Has anyone stayed at Villa Nicolas? They have non AC rooms with great views available-- but I'm a little reluctant to book.

Hi, Just wanted to put in a good word for Costa Verde. We were in the adult building, got a great green season deal on the penthouse that did not have A.C. It was completely comfortable. If Costa Verde is booked Hotel California was very nice, very quiet location, pleasant staff.

I have stayed at Villas Nicolas and it is a wonderful hotel. You have the best of both, nestled in the rainforest and overlooking the ocean. I remember the hammock fondly. I am going back next week for the first time in 7 years, will tel if anything has changed. Also, Si Como No is a luxury hotel next door, you can eat dinner there and stay for the movie of the night in their THX mini-theater. Great place (www.sicomono.com). Villas Nicolas also has A/C in some rooms too. Good luck!

I stayed at Villas Nicolas on a second trip to MA, and liked it even more than Costa Verde. It's a much smaller, more intimate property, which we like. We had room 7-UP. I suggest that or higher for the better views. We were there in Sept. and it got quite warm before the afternoon rains, but it was never a problem in the room or on the patio. We kept the doors open and the fans going and were quite comfortable.

Thanks all for your suggestions. We have decided on Villa Nicolas because it is smaller and are hoping for a low key, intimate atmosphere. I'll give a report when we return!!
