Hotel in Playa del Carmen

Hello Everyone

Can anyone recommend a hotel in Playa del Carmen on or near 5th Ave.? We want to walk to restaurants and bars from our hotel.

There are dozens. We have enjoyed the Posada Mariposa, and the Hotel Banana. They are both on 5th ave on the northern (nicer) end of town. There are tons of restaurants and bars up and down 5th ave, and Mamita's Beach is close to both of these hotels.

I have stayed at Hotel Cielo several times in the last 4 yrs., and now that we have a condo in Playa we send our extra guests to Hotel Cielo.. Love it. Great value, great service, nice restaurant attached, nice Mexican ambience, and very clean large rooms with good ventilation/ ceiling fans and AC. Quiet, although it is just off of 5th Ave on Calle 4. One block straight down to the beach.

We stayed at La Tortuga Hotel on 10th Ave, very centrally located but a block from the craziness of 5th Ave. I really liked it. Extremely tasteful and amazing customer service, insanely clean. If you end up staying there, ask for a room toward the northern edge of the property -- the southern edge abuts the loud and obnoxious club Coco Bongo and the noise travels. Didn't really notice it in our room at the northern edge.

Renting a condo may also be an option. There are many in the Playacar area and within walking distance from 5th, but quiet at night. VRBO and other sites can give you options. (If you do this, consider cross checking your unit on Trip Advisor just to be sure -- not all units within the same complex are maintained the same.

Not all hotels on 5th Avenue have direct beach access if that is important to you. Many allow a free chair at a beach club within a few blocks walk.

We have stayed Playa Palms, which is right on the beach. However, the beach in that area really isn't all that swimmable since the locals tie up their fishing boats there. That hotel also does not have a restaurant on site. We found it difficult to find places that served breakfast on 5th Avenue. We have been to Playa del Carmen x 3 and other areas of Mexico several times. The food on 5th Avenue really is hit and miss. I would do alot of research here for recommended restaurants and many will say "get off 5th Avenue" for the better food.

We have also stayed a the Royal Playa del Carmen, which is an AI adult's only hotel within a 5 minute walk to 5th Avenue. Of all our trips, that hotel is still the best for food and service.

I stayed at Mosquito Blue once which I really liked a lot, and if you get a room in the right location, it isn't too super noisy http://www.mosquitoblue.com/ It's not right on the beach, I don't think I'd want a hotel right on 5th avenue.

10th avenue is a real major thoroughfare BTW. It is one block from 5th in a weird system (major avenues are 5th, 10th, 15th, they don't have each one), but it is a long block.

Now I stay north of ave Constituyentes where it's a little less crazy, but it still isn't a long walk at all if you want to go there (the main part you are thinking of on 5th ave).
