Hotel in MA small group?

We're a group of 8 (3 couples, 2 singles) ranging in age from 34 to 70. One of us walks with a cane. Looking for a nice place to stay 3 -4 nights in Manuel Antonio & considering Mariposa Hotel. Looks beautiful, but expensive. Do any of you experienced Costa Rica travelers have input on Mariposa or suggestions for another spot?

We didn't stay there, but we stayed nearby. It looked quite a bit older than most of the other hotels in the area. We stayed at Mango Moon - it would be a good spot for a group; it's sort of like a little boutique hotel/B&B - very nice views. Most of the rooms share a balcony, which we didn't find very romantic, but would be great for people traveling together. It has recently changed owners, so I'd go to www.tripadvisor.com to see recent reviews and pics. Other popular spots are Costa Verde, Villas Nicolas, Si Como No, and Makanda by the Sea.

I forgot a couple - Buena Vista Villas and Tulemar Bungalows get really good reviews.

Thanks, volcanogirl. Trying to find a hotel in MA that would suit those who want a pool bar & similar amenities and those who want less of a big resort at any beach experience. What about Arenas del Mar to satisfy everyone?

I haven't stayed there but from the reviews on tripadvisor, it seems like it might be difficult for someone with a cane to get around on the property. Also it sounds like it's a bit isolated; my preference is to stay a little closer to the restaurants and the main road. It does look like a beautiful property though.

I think Tulemar Bungelows would be a good option for your group. The property has it's own beach, a pool and it has a shuttle bus you can call to drive you to the beach or to the restaurant if you want to, which would be nice for those who don't want to walk. There are a lot of steep hills so it makes it very convenient. We stayed in the Mot Mot villa this past summer and loved it there.

my daughter and i stayed in MA at the motel VERDE MAR which is right on the beach about 1/4 mile from downtown and the national park. you can walk on the beach to both of the above. staying right on the beach allows 3 couples the freedom of independence of movement without arranging transportation. it can be a long uphill hike returning from beach/town if you are not beachside.
