Hotel Casa Maya in Cancun

Has anyone stayed here? would you recommend it? We are trying to use a timeshare here but want to find out others experiences. Also, this isn't located in the hotel zone. It is on the other side. Is that side okay?

We stayed there 4 years ago and had no complaints. You are in the hotel zone--the older zone. You are on the Isla Mujeres bay side which is nicer due to better beaches for swimming. The bar made great rum and fruit drinks--one was called drunkey donkey and was really good.

We stayed at the Casa Maya on a timeshare exchange January 7th through the 13th last year (2001). We liked it. There was a welcome reception on Sunday evening with free drinks and a free buffet. There were activites at the pool each day and if you stay there be sure to get a "Tropical Sunset" at the pool bar, it is delicious. The location is okay, a little off the "beaten path" but you can catch the bus right near the hotel to get wherever you want to go. The beach is really nice compared with some of the other places we have stayed in Cancun.

We traded to stay at Casa Maya 2 yrs ago and decided to purchase a week...we are going back this year (1/19-1/26). Weather is outragous and place is beautiful...BEWARE!!!! Don't use your credit cards too much. Take traveler' checks...had a bad experience that someone took our credit card number and used it to phone in over 1,200 dollars worth of purchases in Mexico. Notified the hotel and RCI because we believe it was someone from the hotel shops. We were credited. Also, when you trade be careful..first time they put us in an old room with stove and dishwasher that didn't work. Room was clean but not 5 star by any means. If you complain at desk, insist on a 5-star new room!!!! Good luck.

Friends have a timeshare at Casa Maya in Cancun. We all went there for our 25th anniv. together. I can't say enough about this hotel. Clean! They never stopped. Our floor was washed every day, beds made up, bathroom and kitchen cleaned. We loved Isabel! We had a two bedroom facing the beach. Wonderful view. The beach was white spun sugar. Umbrellas and lounge chairs provided. Very hospitable! There was an evening buffet, and a restaurant at the hotel, but we took a short walk up the beach to a little restaurant. We had a great time! Bus stops are close by. Carlos and Murphy's is just down the street, also the Shrimp Bucket. We went on the tour to Tulum. It was great. Be sure to take in the evening show, and go on the river ride. We also went to Chichenitza (spelling?). We were disappointed in the evening show, Tulum was much better. I highly recommend Casa Maya though. I'd go back just for the hotel, and the beach, and the hammocks, and the.....<BR>
