hotel bougainvillea and day trips
Has anyone stayed there and taken day trips around the area. I seem to get conflicting info as to whether this is possible. as to whether they actually pick up there or if you have to take a shuttle to another hotel, etc.
thanks |
Are you talking about the Sheraton Bouganvilla in Puerto Vallarta? If so, There are several tours; if its a water trip you usually have to get to the marina by taxi. If its ATV riding you have to get to their pick up place in town, again by taxi. You can walk into town for day trips, but I would taxi back at night.

Do you mean the Hotel Bougainvillea in Heredia? We stayed there for 1 night at the end of our trip and wished we had more time. Excellent staff, you can ask them your question by e-mailing them. They were good about e-mailing me.
We rented a car in Alajela from Tricolor and dropped the car off at Tricolor they day before we left. Tricolor then gave us a free ride to the Hotel bougainvillea in Heredia. The Bougainvillea has a beautiful garden and nice pool, and they have a free shuttle into downtown San Jose if you want to go shopping or dancing. But you will have to pay for a taxi to the airport if you are going to the airport. I recommend this hotel. We were only there for 1 night and so didn't do any other day-trips. |
the one in Heredia

This is an excellent hotel. The hotel provides free shuttle service to your pick up for your day tour, usually about a 20 minute ride. Your tour provider will inform you if you are picked up at the hotel, or if you need to take the shuttle, and will usually make arrangements with the hotel to take the shuttle.

Hi, In 1996 my family stayed at Hotel Bougainvillea in San Jose - is that the one you mean? We were only there briefly, rooms were fine, but the taxi from the airport got lost and it took us over an hour to get there (it's only about 15-20 minutes away. The driver wouldn't admit he was lost until we passed the same Burger King 3 times!

The Hotel Bougainvillea isn't in San Jose, it's actually in Heredia. I like to bring printed directions with me to show to the taxi driver...they may not speak fluent english, so be sure the directions would be clear to a spanish-speaker. E-mail the Hotel Bougainvillea and ask for directions to give to the taxi driver. Also if you rent a cell phone (we did) you can bring the phone number for the Hotel Bougainvillea...you can have the taxi driver talk to the hotel front desk if necessary. Our taxi driver took one wrong turn, but still found the hotel within 20 minutes from the airport. It's a fairly big sized hotel, by the way, but Heredia doesn't seem to have logical street signs for a taxi driver to follow. Yet, there must be taxi drivers already familiar with the route!
If you rent a cell phone, be aware that some areas of Costa Rica don't have service! |
