Honeymoon in Costa Rica
 

We are taking our honeymoon in Costa Rica June '09 and need some help, please! Because it's the green season, I think we're trying to stay on the Northwest coast (but don't have to stay there if there are better places). We are looking for two places to stay most likely. One fancy and one chill. We for sure want to be on the beach and would like a really good surfing spot. We also like to eat, drink and be merry so we don't need to be totally secluded. Any and ALL suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Manuel Antonio offers really pretty beaches, along with a huge variety of restaurant choices. Fancy choices there would be places like Buena Vista Villas and Makanda by the Sea.

Capitan Suizo is a great suggestion. On the beach, surfing right out front, birds/monkeys/iguanas everywhere, lots of restaurants and nightlife within walking distance, etc. It isn't fancy, but a favorite of many and definitely a romantic setting.

If you go to Tamarindo, make sure you check on the water quality; they've had some issues there with sewage, etc.

Not sure of your budget or how long you have, but Peace Lodge would be a nice place for honeymooners. Also may want to look into Flora Blanca or Punta Islita.

I don't think you have to limit yourself to the NW unless you want to. Lots of people on the forum travel all over CR in the month of June, and the green season doesn't prevent them from doing the activities they have planned.

You'll typically have nice, clear weather in the mornings and storms in the afternoons. It usually doesn't rain all day, and the showers help to cool things off. Of course, weather is weather, so there's no guarantee. ;-)

That said, the NW seems to have much to offer (and definitely has the beaches and surfing you desire), so you'll have a wonderful honeymoon whatever you decide.

If you end up flying through SJO, tully's suggestion of the Peace Lodge is terrific; maybe for your first night or two before heading north (and this would let you experience a different part of CR than where you'd be spending the balance of your stay).

Have you looked into the Four Seasons, Papagayo? It's known for being over the top. Their website makes it look like they have many ways to spoil a guest. Heard it is a wonderful place if you have the extra cash and want to be pampered. That area is close to LIR in case you are planning to fly in and/or out of that airport.

I hate to seem like a sour-puss, but I think you should start with a good general, travel guide on Costa Rica. Try the public library or visit a bookstore and try to see which book covers your interests best. There are many places in Costa Rica that don't get discussed widely here, and some of them just might be what you want. The Trip Advisor website hosts reviews and experiences from lots of people and tend to cover more hotels etc., than are covered here. Pick out some places that look promising and then tap the vast amount of knowledge lurking on this site.

Or, since in another thread, someone is planning a honeymoon for her soon-to-be-married children, maybe you could take advantage of her planning. Tag along, maybe.
