Honduras Help

I need some input on my preliminary ideas for a week's vacation in Honduras. I friend and I are looking for the type of vacation where half the day is adventure / hiking, etc. and the other half is relaxing.

I was thinking about spending 3 nights at the Pico Bonito Lodge with lots of hiking during the daytime. Then getting to (how?) Rataon and spending 4 nights someplace comfortable (but not too upscale) where we can actually swim, snorkle, and maybe do a day trip or 2.

Advice? Is it easy enough to get from Pico Bonito to Roatan? Is there something else that we should be doing instead in Honduras?

Thanks!

Another must-see area (and accessible by bus to the coast) is Copan. If you can fit it into your itinerary, I would highly recommend it -- the Maya architecture there is simply incredible. For a hotel there, we loved our stay with Flavia at Hacienda San Lucas.

I love Copán, too, but I don't think you have time with only a week. You can either fly from La Ceiba to Roatán or ferry across. My photo/blog/travelogue/review site is below in case you're interested. Happy trails!

Also highly recommend Copan if you can squeeze it in!

Also if you were interested to check out La Ceiba, here's the ferry: http://www.roatanferry.com

You can easily get to Roatan from Ceiba using the ferry. Just make sure you take meds if you are prone to get sea sick. It's not a long ride but I have yet to make it without getting ill.
Once you get to Roatan it's easy to get a taxi from the ferry and many hotels will arrange tranfers if you ask.
We always stay at West Bay Lodge in West Bay. It's not right on the beach but a close walk and it's great to go back to lounge by the pool. Just beware of the cruiseship crowd as it was much busier the last time we were there. I belive you can find a schedule online.
We loved Copan and especially loved our overnight trip to Finca Cisne. Great food, horseback riding and real Honduran experience. I wouldn't miss it.
Have fun.

Stayed in Roatan in March for five days at Infinity Bay. They have a shuttle that takes you to the ferry dock. The ferry was enjoyable for me because I don't get seasick. It was no big deal traveling with your luggage either. Getting it once you get off the ferry takes a few minutes as there really isn't a great system but you will get it.

The lodge at Pico Bonito has a bus that will pick you up if you notify them in advance. I'm pretty sure they charge for it but it's a lot easier than trying to crab a cab on your own.

Enjoy Pico Bonito. The trails were nice and I particularly enjoyed their butterfly and reptile houses.

Has anyone travelled to the Mosquitia and Olancho area? I didn't even know about it until I started reading a travel book. Apparently it's still very unspoiled territory, and sounds interesting and adventurous. Maybe too adventurous, I'm not sure, but my interest has been piqued, at least as part of my vacay.

Any info/suggestions/warnings?
