Holbox, place to stay
Hello, does anyone have a good advice on where to stay on Holbox island? We are going there in October for two/three weeks, with our two children 4 yrs and 7 months, so ideally we want a bungalow/place with our own kitchen and two bedrooms.
And apart from the slightly long journey from Cancun airport, is it a nice place to visit with children?
Thanks

I can't help you with accommodations because I've only stayed in hotels.
As for the island being good for children I would think yes as it's very casual there and we did see quite a few families. If your kids like the beach it's a good place.

Casa los Tortugas is a great hotel is the place I would recommend... There is also hotel Mawimbi which is almost next door, both very south after.
You can take the ADO bus from Cancun direct to the village of Chiclita and board the ferry over to the island. I would consider about 2and half hours from Cancun to the village.
There are no cars on the island, only golf carts and no paved roads, only sandy streets. A great place for the kids as there is not much to worry about except walk the beach and decide what to have for diner. There are great restaurants on the main square for everyone. Holbox is a family oriented island and the best past time is watching the sunset form the beach...
A great choice... You can also rent a golf cart or bikes and visit the cemetery or the lagoon, just fantastic.
By the way, the Tortugas hotel is comprised of individual palapas, swimming pool and right on the beach.

I've stayed in both Tortugas and Mawimbi and agree that both are great. However, neither have kitchens or to my knowledge double bedrooms. Tortugas did give us a mini fridge which was nice but I do like Mawimbi a bit better. Tortugas may be a bit more child friendly, though because of the pool.
I did see VRBO and AirBnB had apartments and houses for rent.
