Hoenymoon planning

I am planning a honeymoon for next summer (two weeks beginning on August 20th). I want to stay at the Hotel Villa Del Sol (http://www.hotelvilladelsol.net/) in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo, but my soon-to-be-in-laws have warned my fiancee about how hot it is down there during the summer. Can anyone tell me if it really is a concern? Is there somewhere else you would recommend?

Your in-laws are correct. It will be hot in Ixtapa/Zihuatenejo in August. I suspect you will be experiencing temperatures in the mid 90's (it was 91 today in Zihuatenejo). I also recall having recently read about bacterial water contamination and high pollution levels at some of the beaches in Bahia Zihuatenejo. August is also in the Mexican hurricane season (not likely, but possible). Personally, I would opt for Hawaii.

Is there anywhere in Mexico you would recommend during August/Sept? Hawaii is so expensive that time of the year (OK, all year)...

How about down south......BRASIL.
A few day in RIO then on to some of the small areas......weather is lot nicer since it is winter time in south america.

My personal favorites are Cancun/Maya Riviera and Cabo San Lucas. Cancun has beautiful beaches and offers excellent sightseeing opportunities. Cabo has some great resorts along the "corridor" and is a short, two-hour flight from San Diego. You won't escape the heat but I don't think you would be disappointed with either location.

I'll look into Brasil, thanks for the tip. As for Cancun (I am personally more intrigued by Cozumel), isn't it hurricane season over there, and isn't it supposed to be more humid than the Pacific side?

hurricane season is from may - nov. and yes it is very humid in cacun that time of year. ideal time for cancun and all the caribbean is mid oct - mid may.

And hurricane season does affect Cancun and Cozumel right?

Yes, tyler, the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico can be struck by hurricanes. Guess the real issue is how often that occurs.

Well, it looks like Zihua is going to win out. Thanks for all of the advice everyone!

I would stay at La casa que canta.....right down the way from Villa del Sol...

We stayed in their private Villa call El Murmullo and had our own pool and private butler....no more expensive than Villa del sol. Very Romantic and no children...
