I would like to visit Machu Pichu , when is the best time to visit the ruins?

The time of year at the ruins is not critical, but mid summer (now) is the least comfortable. However, if you are going to take in Cusco on the way (how else!) then remember that at that altitude, the winter (May to Sept) is distinctly cold. On the other hand, if you are going to visit tropical Latin American areas (Brazil, etc.) during your trip, then avoid the S hemisphere summer time (Nov to March)

We were at Machu Piccu and Cuzco in December. The weather was cool but not cold. It rained at M.C. during the two days we were there, but we were able too see everything.

went to Cusco in August--cold nights, beautiful warm days, MP was cloudy and cool, climbed mani pichu and sweated the whole way, it was absolutely gorgeous. Believe the tourist time is generally June thru Aug.

Yes, definitely go to Peru. It's fabulous, especially for photography. Get out of Lima as fast as you can. The weather is usually gloomy and crime is high, plus there's not a whole lot to see. Go to Cuzco and hang out in the Urubamba Valley for a few days, visiting Cuzco, Chinchero (Sunday market is great), Pisac, and Ollantaytambo. There is a hotel, aptly called Las Ruinas, right at Machu Picchu. This is the best place to stay because you can be there when all the daytrippers who come in on the train have gone. Alternatively, there are a couple of hotels at the bottom of the hill, but it's a long hike or bus ride up to the ruins. Have fun!

It is safe for me to trek the Incas Trail alone?
Any suggestion for a guide and porter.
