Hiking KM104 in March?

To hike from KM 104 on March 4, how do we go about doing that??? Do all the vistadome trains from Ollanta stop there? Do you have to have a guide? Will someone recommend a guide?

We're 46 and 52. We're staying two nights in AC.

Thanks all.

You have to have a guide. There's a guard shack where they check your ID.

I used Lima Tours and they were good.

The trains make an on-call stop at Km. 104. If there's a group making the hike, the train will stop. If not, it goes on by.

You must go with a guide, but have alternatives in mind. It might be too late to make reservations for early March, especially if you are looking for a specific date. Space fills up quickly.

Fodor's or nny guidebook to Peru lists outfitters that can take you.

Thanks Jeff ---

By the way, I loved Costa Rica last year. Hope to go back one day...

Jeff is correct, you need all the same paperwork as those who are doing the 4 day hike. So, not only a guide, but also the elusive permits. If this is something you really want to do and have a specific date in mind, start calling outfitters ASAP to try to lock in the permits.

Hope you can swing it. We did it in September and had a great time.
