Hiking boots at Machu Picchu?

We will be going to MP at the beginning of September (but not hiking the Inca Trail). Do you think we will need hiking boots, or would sneakers be sufficient?

Do you think it pays to bring collapsible walking sticks?

We are in our 50s and in reasonable shape.

Thanks!

Len

Len, sneakers will be fine for walking around the MP area. I don't think you need the walking sticks either.

Ditto cmcfong.
You might want to wear long pants, we wore shorts and got bitten up by bugs we never saw.

Enjoy!

When we were there we had a little rain. We did take what we call hiking boots. They are goretex and lightweight. Good traction and waterproofing are good for this. However, you can just use sneakers if you don't mind wet feet (might not even rain) and they have good soles. No walking stick needed.
Happy travels!

I agree... if you are not doing the Inca Trail... you won't need neither hiking boots nor walking sticks.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Rgds,

Save some weight...no walking boots or sticks required. Enjoy.
