Heys Girls, any fav Zip-off pants??

Greetings! I've never bought zip offs so I thought I'd ask for some feedback from those of you who have. Of course lightweight, easy to dry, etc. is the thing for CR.I like comfy loose fitting. Is there such a thing as a low rise draw string waistband out there? Probably not. Thanx! Cheri

I haven't found low-rise, but I have two pairs from REI that are really comfortable. I wear them for camping normally and am planning to take them to CR. I think I saw that North Face had some similar, too, at REI.

I do believe the Northface is a bit lower waisted than the ones I have.

Mine are just store brand, inexpensive, from someplace like Bass Pro Shop or such. They have some elastic in the waist.

Come on, you guys are just joking around, right?

If this isn't troll-ish posting, then it's the best imitation of troll-ish posting I've seen in a while...

Hi. I too bought quick dry pants from REI. Our store had a great selection. They even carried some of the more trendy brands. Also try Athleta.com, they may have low rise zip offs.

Don't know what you mean by troll-ish posting. In response to your question, bluejeans, I recently bought a pair of zip offs at a friend's recommendation from campmor.com. They are great. Very lightweight and elastic waist. They are Columbia Aruba pants. Unfortunately the price was so great ($20) that they only have them in a large right now. But they have others that look pretty good also.

Two of the pairs of quick-dry pants that I bought from REI have the draw string, they are capris.

Just Google "internet troll lookup" and you'll see.

Just got a direct email from one poster here saying that she resented me "belittling another's need for advice." I was preparing a short email reply to her but then thought it would perhaps be more appropriate to post the response openly here.

I'm sorry to hear that anyone would have this kind of reaction to my first reply on this thread. However it was an honest one and I don't believe it can reasonably be said to belittle anyone.

Unfortunately the fact is that the post that started the thread is precisely in keeping with the style and content of posts recently on the PlayaInfo, LocoGringo and TripAdvisor forums, where in each case what was originally posted was innocent enough, perhaps, but things then exploded into perverse and insulting activities online, leading to the users and their IP addresses being banned by each of those forums.

My comment left open the question of whether the original post here was genuine or not, and what I said -- that if it wasn't troll-ish posting, then it was a good imitation of it -- is objectively accurate. If you have not seen these incidents recently on those other 3 forums or had much time on these forums to see such things occur, then you probably wouldn't understand my perspective.

Incidentally even my follow-up comment simply provides an objective and accurate answer to the implied question of what is meant by "trolling" in Internet lingo, again without asserting anything about the validity of the original posts.

I hope this explains my comments to the satsifaction of anyone out there reading this so that no one else will misinterpret them and unnecessarily take offense at them.

Steve

Give us a break! We are girls just talking about girl things. After all what do girls do best? Shop of course! You would need to get in touch with your feminine side to understand I guess. If there are rules on this board about not asking or telling about where to get some recommended clothes for the country people are going to I certainly haven't seen it and apologize for breaking it if I have.

I like the Columbia zip offs myself .

Well you're playing well for the troll role, whether you mean to or not! There's usually an entity under another name that comes back with more reasonable such comments saying things are really all right and no trolling is involved. After all, once people catch on, things get a lot harder and a lot less enjoyable for those doing these things, so it's very helpful to have someone espouse that kind of view. Again, just reporting an objective fact.

This thread on LocoGringo

http://www.locogringo.com/forums/tm.asp?m=36976

discusses the aftermath of the sessions I was talking about, and you can glean some of the similarities by reading through it -- women's clothing the topic, multiple identities from users -- by reading through it. Also contains some additional information about trolls and this phenomenon, including links to sites on them. Doing the Google search I suggested above will turn up many such links, as well.

Check those sources, reread this, and you cannot miss the similarities I am pointing out, that's all.

Steve,
Thanks for your response. I understand better now where you are coming from and I am sure you understand where we are too.

So anyways...since THIS girl DOESN'T like to shop (hence, asking for help from those who might be better at it than I)I thank you for the tips and the push in the right direction. Just a tad over 3 weeks before we head to CR and we can't wait. Our whole trip basically has been "built" from reading your posts and the Fodor's book. We're gonna have a blast! And Steve....I still don't know where you are coming from, but I know I don't want to go there. You are barking up the wrong tree, and I don't appreciate your implying wrong motives to this friendly bunch. You obviously don't know us very well.

Sorry, Steve, but I do not see where you're coming from. There was nothing even remotely trollish about Blujeans original post. She was asking for recommendations regarding travel clothing, specifically for a trip to Costa Rica- an entirely appropriate topic for this forum.

Carry on, ladies. I've never bought zip off pants, but I might get some for my next trip to Central America. Drawstring would be good - I hate elastic waistbands!

Hi Ladies - Well...

I am the direct emailer. I had emailed Steve Ryberg, directly in an attempt to avoid, exactly what has happened. His email address is there, so I thought instead of posting my concern on the forum, I would post it directly to him. Well - That failed!

No question is too trivial for a poster to ask. It annoys me when someone makes light of someones elses question.

Yes, I admit, sometimes they do get a little repetitive, however I feel I need to give back to this forum for all that it has given me.

Sometimes we even have to ignore a subject, once it gets out of hand, in hopes that it will go away.

Not everyone has traveled the whole world over. Not everyone knows exactly what a zipoff pant is, and certainly not where they can be purchased.

I tried to look at the post that were referred to at the site Steve provided. They have been moved. So I don't have a clue as to what the swimsuit subject was.

Cheri have a wonderful time on your trip, I certainly hope you find the perfect pant.

I like Royal Robbins. I buy them at the outlet store in Berkeley for about 20% off retail. I've taken them all over the place -- from Mexico to Cambodia -- and they're great. Elastic back, but not front, which is more comfortable (not to mention flattering) than elastic all round. They make some that are especially lightweight which are good for really hot/humid climates.

I will defend to the death my right to dish about travel clothes on this forum!

I have several pairs of zip-offs and love them. They were perfect in Costa Rica. I really got by with one pair, but 2 was a good number to have. They are quite acceptable at restaurants, too. I love my Columbias the best, (the Arubas have too much elastic in the waist for me, but are good pants). LLBean now carries some Bug-Off zip-offs now, along with Bug-Off camp shirt and tees that worked great for our trip. I loved the camp shirt! It was perfect to put on in the morning and evening and I never got a single bite. Good Luck!
