Help with Polo

Hi guys,

I was hoping to go to a polo match while in BA next month. What is the best way to find out the schedule and get tickets to a match. It sounds like an experience that should not be missed.

Thanks!

Next month you have these two tournaments, travelgrl11. Both are held out of town. I'm not sure about how to get tickets. Tell me which one you can go to and I'll find out. Our polo is considered the best in the world.

Have a great time in our country.

Couldn't tell where they were from the names of the clubs. But we will be in BA until Oct 6th then Mendoza through Oct 11th. Will be down in Ushuaia starting Oct 13th. Do any of those dates fit the tournaments?

Thanks for your help!

The dates you have given me, which are not clear, suggest you could go to the first tournament, held at the Tortugas Country Club, about 25 miles out of town.

According to the polo association's website, this tournament will be played between Sept. 23 and October 11.

There will be matches for the Tortugas Open Championship on October 4 and 5, probably the semifinals. The Tortugas Open is one of the most important Polo tournaments in the world, part of the Triple Crown in Argentine Polo championships, and the best plolo players in the world will be participating, including Adolfo Cambiaso. It is played in a club 40 min. outside Buenos Aires. You can email me if you wish, maybe I can help you with transportation.

I'm also interested in seeing a polo match, but will only be in BA from October 14th- October 17th. I tried to find the information on the link posted above, but had no success since my Spanish is very limited. Does anyone know if there is an English language website I can look at? Thanks.

workstotravel:
During your dates, on Oct. 14 and 15, there will be matches of the Hurlingham Open. This is another one of the tournaments of the Triple Crown (the third is the Palermo Argentine Open Championship). The official information on this tournament has not been released yet, so you will hardly find any information in Spanish or English. I'll try to keep you updated.

According to Our Polo Association, the Hurlingham tournament is scheduled to start on Oct. 14, as I posted in the first reply to the OP.

However, keep in mind that polo schedules often change, due to rain delays.

Sorry, I thought the October 14th one was in another city. Hopefully we will be able to check out a match on the 15th!

Bea01 Sep 17th, 2008 04:29 PM

For both dates, the 14th and the 15th, the matches will be played at Hurlingham Polo club, which is located in a suburb of Buenos Aires, around 30 minutes by car. Those are different dates of the same tournament.

Looks like it will work out then. One last question (hopefully), I searched the forum but couldn't find how expensive it would be to take a cab out there. Does anyone have an estimate? Thanks!

Back again. How do you buy tickets for a match and do they sell out in advance. I looked on the site provided www.aapolo.com but as my Spanish is terrible, I would not figure it out.

Thanks!

avrooster Sep 30th, 2008 04:33 AM

travelgrl11: I just called Tortugas Country Club and they said the tickets are sold right there.

The prices are mentioned in the above mentioned website, which I repeat:

About transportation, the cheap way to do it would be to have your hotel contact:

This is another transportation alternative:

Hi
I'm visiting Argentina next month and would love to see a polo match. I'm in BA on the 2nd (Sunday), 3, 4 and then Saturday 22nd November. Does anyone know if there are matches on these dates and where can I look for events?
Also, do games happen round the rest of the country, or just near BA?
Thanks!

Bea01 Oct 13th, 2008 10:05 AM

On November 2nd and 3rd there are no scheduled matches, unless the final of Hurlingham Club Championship which is programmed for Nov. 1st has to be rescheduled in case of rain. On November 4th youŽll have the Cámara de Diputados cup in Pilar and Ellerstina Gold Cup at La Ellerstina Polo club, both outside Buenos Aires so you will have to arrange for transportation.
On November 22nd there will be able to attend one of the matches of Argentine Open Championship in Palermo. Tickets are not on sale yet but as it wonŽt be one of the final dates you will be able to find tickets available, at least the cheaper ones, on the same day of the event at Palermo ticket offices.
