Help with Packing for Rio and Santiago

We are in the midst of packing for a trip to South America. Saw the recent Argentina post on dressing for Buenos Aires. Will this also be OK for Rio and Santiago? My husband has already packed a blazer and 2 long sleeved shirts and is now wondering if he will need the blazer. We are doing the trip with just carry-on luggage, so don't want to pack to much or buy anything there. This forum is so helpful. Thanks for answering.

Was to all of these places in March 2007, and what you have packed for Buenos Aires will be just fine for Rio and for Santiago.:)

Enjoy your trip

Hi, Rio is very very casual. You can pratically go to the supermarket in your bikini and nobody will react. You will be fine with a pair of jeans in most places, shorts, t-shirts, flip flops etc. No blazers required at all. Buenos Aires is a bit more sophisticated, but also quite casual. A blazer would be nice in the better restaurants during the evening but I doubt it will be a must.
Make sure not to bring any jewelry or expose expensive items whilst walking in Rio. Low key is better!!

don't know when you guys are coming to Chile. Santiago is getting pretty warm by these days... and sometimes a little bit chilly at night... I would recommend you to bring some t-shirts also, tons of sunblock, a hat and sunglasses.

are you staying just in Santiago?
